چکیده

— In this study, larvae of Asian seabass Lates calcarifer were fed, from mouth opening to 11 days post hatching (dph), with rotifers and then with newly hatched Artemia nauplii. Gene expression patterns of the lipolytic enzymes phospholipase A2 (PLA2) and triacylgycerol lipase (TGL) were determined by quantitative real time-PCR. The larvae were sampled at 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28 and 30 dph. Larval dry weight was also measured. In order to quantify the mRNA levels of PLA2 and TGL, a 244-bp fragment of β-actin complementary DNA was cloned and sequenced. Based on this sequence, a real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction technique to monitor the change in the mRNA levels in the larvae was developed. PLA2 and TGL mRNA were present at hatching and their levels generally increased with larval age and then reached a plateau. PLA2 mRNA expression was highest at 17 dph while the highest TGL mRNA expression was observed at 20 dph.

Effects of intermittent feeding on compensatory growth, feed intake and body composition in Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer)

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of various starvation and refeeding periods on growth, feed utilization and body composition in Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) with an average initial weight of 30.26±1.4 g (mean±SE). The fish were exposed to three different regimes: the control group fed twice daily to apparent satiation throughout the experiment (C), the first group ...

Mass Mortalities Associated with Viral Nervous Necrosis in Hatchery-Reared Sea Bass Lates calcarifer in the Philippines

Viral nervous necrosis (VNN), also known as viral encephalopathy and retinopathy (VER), is an emerging disease affecting larvae and juveniles of many farmed marine fish species in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Mass mortality occurred in 14-day old larval sea bass Lates calcarifer at a hatchery in the Philippines associated with clinical signs such as abnormal swimming behavior and ...

Osmoregulatory Parameters of Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) during adaptation in Freshwater

In the present study, the adaptation of Asian sea bass (lates calcarifer) was investigated in fresh water using physiological parameters of osmoregulation including: the plasma levels of thyroid hormones and cortisol, gill Na+/ K+-ATPase activity and plasma concentrations of sodium and chloride. For this purpose, 60 fish were distributed in three 300 L tanks with a density of 20 fish per tank. ...
