چکیده

In this paper, we first define the characteristics of a heterogeneous DDBMS (section 1). Then we present the heterogeneous DDBMS we are implementing. This prototype relies on the SIRIUS-DELTA homogeneous DDBMS and two local DBMSs : MRDS (running on a very large computer) and PHLOX (a DBMS for micro-computers). The basis of the system is a pivot system concept (section 2). The description of the distributed database schema refers to a pivot model which is the relational model. A pivot language, called PETAL, has been designed for the transfer of queries. On each

Using grouping strategy and pattern discovery for delta extraction in a limited collaborative environment

It is very common that the large and multinational business organizations distribute their operational database systems over the wide area networks. The data integration from the distributed and highly autonomous operational database systems has to overcome many organizational and technical problems. Materialized view is the permanently stored relational table that contains integrated data from...

Security issues for federated database systems

This paper describes security issues for federated database management systems set up for managing distributed, heterogeneous and autonomous multilevel databases. It builds on our previous work in multilevel secure distributed database management systems and on the results of others’ work in federated database systems. In particular, we define a multilevel secure federated database system and d...

Mixed concurrency control: Dealing with heterogeneity in distributed database systems

A mixed concurrency control, which allows the two techniques two phase locking and certification to coexist together in the same distributed dambase system, proves to be advantageous in a number of situations : interconnected databases, static or dynamic heterogeneity of transactions or objects. In this paper we propose a method which seems well adapted to the majority of the forms of heterogen...

Separating indexes from data: a distributed scheme for secure database outsourcing

Database outsourcing is an idea to eliminate the burden of database management from organizations. Since data is a critical asset of organizations, preserving its privacy from outside adversary and untrusted server should be warranted. In this paper, we present a distributed scheme based on storing shares of data on different servers and separating indexes from data on a distinct server. Shamir...

Sirius: Distributing and Coordinating Application Reference Data

The main memory of a typical application server is now large enough to hold many interesting reference datasets which the application must access frequently but for which it is not the system of record. However, application architectures have not evolved to take proper advantage. Common solutions based on caching data from a separate persistence tier lead to error-prone I/O code that is still s...
