A new species of Simnia from England (Caenogastropoda: Ovulidae)

چکیده
A new species of Ovulidae, Simnia hiscocki, is described from the Cornwall Peninsula, England, and compared with Simnia patula occurring in the same area, from which it differs in shelland radula-morphological features as well as ecological features. DNA analysis suggests that it is a very young species whose host-specificity to Eunicella verrucosa makes it a potentially useful species for monitoring sea-temperature-change.

The masquerade game: marine mimicry adaptation between egg-cowries and octocorals
Background. Background matching, as a camouflage strategy, is one of the most outstanding examples of adaptation, where little error or mismatch means high vulnerability to predation. It is assumed that the interplay of natural selection and adaptation are the main evolutionary forces shaping the great diversity of phenotypes observed in mimicry; however, there may be other significant processe...
متن کاملTwo new species of Tornidae (Caenogastropoda, Rissooidea) from Espírito Santo, Brazil
Two new species of shallow water Tornidae are found in Espírito Santo state, Brazil, formally described herein. They belong to a complex group of tiny gastropods, in such the taxonomy is very confused. Cyclostremiscus mohicanussp. n. is characterized by three well-developed spiral, equidistant carinas, working as base of three series of tall, aligned periostracal rods. Episcinia itanhunasp. n. ...
متن کاملMolecular data for Crenavolva species (Gastropoda, Ovulidae) reveals the synonymy of C. chiapponii
During fieldwork in Indonesia and Malaysia, eight lots containing 33 specimens belonging to the genus Crenavolva (Ovulidae) were collected. Species were initially identified as Crenavolvaaureola, Crenavolvachiapponii, Crenavolvastriatula and Crenavolvatrailli, respectively. For Crenavolvachiapponii this is the second record. In contrast to the ecological data available from the original descrip...
متن کاملA new melanopsid (Gastropoda) species from the middle Miocene Kupres Basin (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Melanopsis fateljensis (Caenogastropoda: Cerithiimorpha: Melanopsidae) is described as a new species from the early Middle Miocene lacustrine deposits of the Kupres Basin. Similarities to other co-occurring melanopsids are discussed. Its unique morphology, in particular the elongate, stepped spire with prominent spiral bulges, clearly distinguishes the new species from all other Melanopsidae kn...
متن کاملTwo new species of Fluminicola (Caenogastropoda, Lithoglyphidae) from southwest Oregon, USA, and a range extension for F. multifarius
We describe two new species of pebblesnails (Lithoglyphidae: Fluminicola) from southwest Oregon based on morphologic and mitochondrial DNA (COI, cytB) evidence. Fluminicola umpquaensissp. n., which had been traditionally identified as F. virens prior to the recent restriction of the latter to the lower Columbia River drainage, lives in lotic habitats in the Umpqua River basin. This species is r...
