Adaptive changes in enzyme activity and metabolic pathways in adipose tissue from meal-fed rats

چکیده
A number of metabolic factors and the activity of a number of enzymes were determined in meal-fed (animals fed a single daily 2 hr meal) and nibbling (ad libitum-fed) rats. The dependency of the observed adaptive changes on the ingestion of carbohydrate was studied by feeding diets high in carbohydrate or fat. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and NADP-malic dehydrogenase were more active in adipose tissue from high carbohydrate meal-fed rats than in tissue from ad libitum-fed rats. The activity in adipose tissue of isocitric dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, and NAD-malic dehydrogenase did not increase significantly in response to meal-feeding the high carbohydrate diet. No increase in lipogenesis or enzyme activity could be demonstrated in adipose tissue from rats meal-fed a high fat diet. Lipase activity of adipose tissue was increased by high carbohydrate meal-feeding and decreased by feeding a high fat diet. The in vitro uptake of palmitate-lJ4C by adipose tissue was depressed by a high fat diet and enhanced in rats meal-fed a high carbohydrate diet. Diaphragm or slices of liver from high fat-fed rats oxidized palmitate-1-92 more rapidly than did tissue from ad libitumfed animals. Evidence is presented for the quantitative importance of citrate as a source of extramitochondrial acetyl CoA in adipose tissue of meal-eating and ad libitum-fed rats. The relationship of extramitochondrially formed citrate to the NAD-malic dehydrogenase-malic enzyme system in adipose tissue is discussed.

Background & Aims: Physical activity by modulating angiogenesis in adipose tissue, effects on the entire body metabolic profile. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 12 weeks of moderate intensity continuous training on VEGF, PEDF and PAI-1 of visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue in obese rats. Materials & Methods: 15 male Wistar rats were divided into 2 groups...
متن کاملHormone-Induced Variation of Phosphatidate Phosphohydrolase Activity in Various Tissues of Pregnant Rats
Variations in phosphatidate phosphohydrolase (PAP) activity and triacylglycerol concentration were measured in pregnant and hormone-treated non-pregnant female rats. PAP activity in adipose tissue was elevated by 61% during pregnancy. The increase in the enzyme activity was paralleled with a rise in serum triacylglycerol concentration (44%). Estradiol injecting into non-pregnant rats increased ...

The incidence of obesity, as a major health problem, has increased significantly over the past decades. This condition is associated with an increased risk of cancers, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. The current study aimed to investigate the effects of inflammation and changes of adipose tissue-resident immune cells on increasing the risk of cancer in obese individuals. In obesit...

Diurnal changes in glycogen stores of adipose tissues and in vitro lipolytic activity of isolated epididymal fat cells, and their lipolytic responsiveness to epinephrine and theophylline were examined in rats adapted to a 2-h daily meal feeding (20.00-22.00 h; darkness between 20.00-08.00 h) for 3 weeks and in control rats fed ad libitum. The fat cells from both groups of animals showed the pea...
