چکیده

Due to complex physics dictating the motion of cloth materials, cloth simulation in computer graphics is computationally intensive and particularly slow. To make matters worse, cloth is a continuous material that requires being modeled with a large number of polygons in order to avoid coarse edges and swells. This project aimed to study the modeling of a continuous surface using subdivision and to simulate the physics that dictate the motion of a cloth-like material. The final product includes a framework for analyzing granularity of subdivision necessary for nice looking cloth draping over a static object, and shows many cloth-like characteristics. These characteristics include edge ripple due to stretch, simple physics like air resistance to motion, and buckle toward the object over which it is being draped.

Adaptive cloth simulation using corotational finite elements

In this article we introduce an efficient adaptive cloth simulation method which is based on a reversible √ 3refinement of corotational finite elements. Our novel approach can handle arbitrary triangle meshes and is not restricted to regular grid meshes which are required by other adaptive methods. Most previous works in the area of adaptive cloth simulation use discrete cloth models like mass-...

Stable Cloth Animation with Adaptive Level of Detail

Cloth simulation is a highly intensive processor task. Higher details are often traded or sacrificed for speed in order to maintain the simulation at reasonable rates. This article proposes a technique to dynamically adjust the level of detail of cloth meshes. Mesh quality, during successive subdivision/simplification operations, is guaranteed by the subdivision scheme adopted. Also, topology o...

Efficient Cloth Simulation Using an Adaptive Finite Element Method

In this paper we present an efficient adaptive cloth simulation based on the √ 3-refinement scheme. Our adaptive cloth model can handle arbitrary triangle meshes and is not restricted to regular grid meshes which are required by other methods. Previous works on adaptive cloth simulation often use discrete cloth models like mass-spring systems in combination with a specific subdivision scheme. T...

REVERSE LOOP SUBDIVISION FOR GEOMETRY AND TEXTURES

Reverse subdivision aims at constructing a coarser representation of an object given by a fine polygon mesh. In this paper, we first derive a mask for reverse Loop subdivision that can be applied to both regular and extraordinary vertices. The mask is parameterized, and thus can also be used in reversing variants of Loop subdivision, such as those proposed by Warren and Litke. We apply this mas...

GPU-based Collision Detection for Deformable Parameterized Surfaces

Based on the potential of current programmable GPUs, recently several approaches were developed that use the GPU to calculate deformations of surfaces like the folding of cloth or to convert higher level geometry to renderable primitives like NURBS or subdivision surfaces. These algorithms are realized as a per-frame operation and take advantage of the parallel processing power of the GPU. Unfo...
