چکیده

There has recently been growing interest in valence and emotion sensing using a variety of signals. Text, as a communication channel, gathers a substantial amount of interest for recognizing its underlying sentiment (valence or polarity), affect or emotion (e.g. happy, sadness). We consider recognizing the valence of a sentence as a prior task to emotion sensing. In this article, we discuss our approach to classify sentences in terms of emotional valence. Our supervised system performs syntactic and semantic analysis for feature extraction. Our system processes the interactions between words in sentences using dependency parse trees, and it can identify the current polarity of named-entities based on onthe-fly topic modeling. We compared the performance of three rule-based approaches and two supervised approaches (i.e. Naive Bayes and Maximum Entropy). We trained and tested our system using the SemEval-2007 affective text dataset, which contains news headlines extracted from news websites. Our results show that our systems outperform the systems demonstrated in

Dependency Forest for Sentiment Analysis

Dependency Grammars prove to be effective in improving sentiment analysis, because they can directly capture syntactic relations between words. However, most dependency-based systems suffer from a major drawback: they only use 1-best dependency trees for feature extraction, which adversely affects the performance due to parsing errors. Therefore, we propose an approach that applies dependency f...

SACkED: Sentiment Analysis of Corporate Earnings Documents

In this paper, we present SACkED, Sentiment Analysis of Corporate Earnings Documents, with the goal of finding mispriced stocks by extracting sentiments (or opinions) about a company in the public statements that it issues. In particular, we will focus our attention on the publicly-available transcripts of earnings calls, where companies discuss financial performance after a reporting period. I...

Sentence Level Sentiment Analysis in the Presence of Conjuncts Using Linguistic Analysis

In this paper we present an approach to extract sentiments associated with a phrase or sentence. Sentiment analysis has been attempted mostly for documents typically a review or a news item. Conjunctions have a substantial impact on the overall sentiment of a sentence, so here we present how atomic sentiments of individual phrases combine together in the presence of conjuncts to decide the over...

A Tidy Data Model for Natural Language Processing using cleanNLP

The package cleanNLP provides a set of fast tools for converting a textual corpus into a set of normalized tables. The underlying natural language processing pipeline utilizes Stanford’s CoreNLP library, exposing a number of annotation tasks for text written in English, French, German, and Spanish. Annotators include tokenization, part of speech tagging, named entity recognition, entity linking...
