چکیده

We consider the three-dimensional Poiseuille problem of a viscous incompressible uid ow between parallel plates. The ows under investigation are assumed to be traveling waves in streamwise direction with spatial periodicity 2==. In spanwise direction they are assumed to be uniformly close to the basic ow which enables us to use the spatial center{manifold reduction, where the spanwise variable takes the role of the time. For Reynolds numbers close to criticality the problem is reduced to a four-dimensional ODE whose lowest order terms coincide with the steady complex Ginzburg{Landau equation. Using perturbation arguments we relate reversible n{ pulse solutions of this equation to n{pulse solutions of the problem on a center manifold. Thus, we obtain multi{pulse solutions of the Navier{Stokes problem for parameters slightly below criticality. These solutions are localised in spanwise direction but periodic in streamwise direction.

Centrifugal Destabilization and Restabilization of Plane Shear Flows

The ow of an incompressible viscous uid between parallel plates becomes unstable when the plates are tumbled. As the tumbling rate increases, the ow restabilizes. This phenomenon is elucidated by path-following techniques. The solution of the Navier-Stokes equations is approximated by spectral techniques. The linear stability of these solutions is studied.

Analytic Approximate Solutions for Unsteady Two-Dimensional and Axisymmetric Squeezing Flows between Parallel Plates

The flow of a viscous incompressible fluid between two parallel plates due to the normal motion of the plates is investigated. The unsteady Navier-Stokes equations are reduced to a nonlinear fourthorder differential equation by using similarity solutions. Homotopy analysis method HAM is used to solve this nonlinear equation analytically. The convergence of the obtained series solution is carefu...

A comparative study between two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations

The present study aimed to investigate two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. For this purpose, the mentioned flow equations were written in two different formulations, namely (i) velocity-pressure and (ii) vorticity-stream function formulations. Solution algorithms and boundary conditions were presented for both formulations and the efficiency of each formulation was investiga...

A Message-Passing Distributed Memory Parallel Algorithm for a Dual-Code Thin Layer, Parabolized Navier-Stokes Solver

In this study, the results of parallelization of a 3-D dual code (Thin Layer, Parabolized Navier-Stokes solver) for solving supersonic turbulent flow around body and wing-body combinations are presented. As a serial code, TLNS solver is very time consuming and takes a large part of memory due to the iterative and lengthy computations. Also for complicated geometries, an exceeding number of grid...

Geometric Inversion of two-dimensional Stokes flows - Application to the flow between parallel planes

Geometric inversion is applied to two-dimensional Stokes flow in the objective to find new Stokes flow solutions. The principle of this method and the relations between the reference and inverse fluid velocity fields are presented. They are followed by applications to the flow between two parallel plates induced by a rotating or a translating cylinder. Thus hydrodynamic characteristics of flow ...
