The Occurrence in Yeast of Cytoplasmic Granules Which Resemble Microbodies
نویسندگان
چکیده
Microbodies and microbody-like cytoplasmic granules have been identified by ultrastructural criteria in liver and kidney cells (1, 7, 17) and in various cell types in all major plant groups (14). These or similar organelles have been shown to contain hydrogen peroxide-producing and -destroying enzymes in liver and kidney cells (2, 7-9) and in the protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis (8). The term "peroxisome" has been introduced by de Duve and Baudhuin (11) to identify the biochemical one diploid strain, since this enzyme has been used as a peroxisome marker (7, 11). The data obtained from the electron microscopical and the biochemical analyses provided the basis for the present report, which shows the existence of cytoplasmic granules which differed from mitochondria in fine-structural features and in enzyme activity distribution.

Penicillium chrysogenum Pex5p mediates differential sorting of PTS1 proteins to microbodies of the methylotrophic yeast Hansenula polymorpha.
We have isolated the Penicillium chrysogenum pex5 gene encoding the receptor for microbody matrix proteins containing a type 1 peroxisomal targeting signal (PTS1). Pc-pex5 contains 2 introns and encodes a protein of approximately 75 kDa. P. chrysogenum pex5 disruptants appear to be highly unstable, show poor growth, and are unable to sporulate asexually. Furthermore, pex5 cells mislocalize a fl...
متن کاملSCD6 induces ribonucleoprotein granule formation in trypanosomes in a translation-independent manner, regulated by its Lsm and RGG domains
Ribonucleoprotein (RNP) granules are cytoplasmic, microscopically visible structures composed of RNA and protein with proposed functions in mRNA decay and storage. Trypanosomes have several types of RNP granules, but lack most of the granule core components identified in yeast and humans. The exception is SCD6/Rap55, which is essential for processing body (P-body) formation. In this study, we a...
متن کاملCytochemical Localization of Peroxidatic Activity of Catalase in Rat Hepatic Microbodies (peroxisomes)
Prominent staining of rat hepatic microbodies was obtained by incubating sections of aldehyde-fixed rat liver in a modified Graham and Karnovsky's medium for ultrastructural demonstration of peroxidase activity. The electron-opaque reaction product was deposited uniformly over the matrix of the microbodies. The microbodies were identified by their size, shape, presence of tubular nucleoids, and...
متن کاملThe effects of activated-omental extract on nuclear and cytoplasmic in vitro maturation of rat oocytes
Objective: The role of growth factors, including vascular endothelial growth factor of activated omentum on mitosis is clearly known, though not on all the aspects of in vitro oocyte maturation. This study was designed to assess the effect of activated-omental extract (AOE) on in vitro maturation (IVM) of rat cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs). Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, th...
متن کاملThe Protective Effect of Cell Wall and Cytoplasmic Fraction of Selenium Enriched Yeast on 1, 2-Dimethylhydrazine-induced Damage in Liver
Background: 1, 2-Dimethylhydrazine (DMH) enhances lipid peroxidation rate by tumor mitochondria than normal tissue counterpart and causes many disorders in antioxidant system in liver. It also increases the level of enzymes that metabolize toxin in liver and colon. The aim of this study was to evaluate the alteration of liver and its enzymes after DMH injection and evaluate protective effect of...
