BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/ bcr-2017-219287 DESCRIPTION The ocular ultrasonography has evolved over years; the combined mode using A-scan and B-scan is very useful in the diagnosis of posterior segment pathology. Brightness mode helps in better evaluation of the mass lesion regarding their size, shape, extent and relationship with the remaining posterior segment structures. The frequency used for ophthalmic diagnosis is 8–10 MHz. The eyeball mainly encompasses the three coats: the sclera, choroid and retina. On B-scan, the normal spikes correspond to anterior lens capsule, posterior capsule, hypoechoic vitreous followed by the first high spike of the retina followed by the sclera. The retrobulbar fat is echogenic, and between this, the optic nerve can be seen as a tube-like hypoechoic channel extending from the sclera posteriorly towards the apex. 2 Usual ocular scanning probe positions are transverse scan (gives the lateral extent of the lesion), longitudinal scan (gives the anteroposterior extent of the lesion) and the axial scan (demonstrates the lesion with respect to the lens and optic nerve). From the above examination methods, we are able

متن کاملUltrasonographic findings of some ocular structures in Caspian miniature horse
Ultrasonography is a relatively easy, safe and non-invasive examination method which can be used in diagnosis of ocular disorders as complementary to routine ophthalmic examinations. As there has been no collated study undertaken on the normal measurements of ocular structures in Caspian miniature horse, obtaining these measurements could be a benchmark to diagnose some of the diseases and eye ...
متن کاملANTERIOR MEGALOPHTHALMOS
Anterior megalophthalmos is a developmental anomaly of the anterior ocular segment. This is an X-linked recessive disease and manifests as bilateral enlarged corneas, open iridocorneal angle, hypoplastic iris and dislocation and opacification of an apparently small lens. We have also observed obvious vitreoretinal degeneration in our patients. What may threaten visual acuity later is an op...
متن کاملRetinoblastoma: report of a case with minimal retinal involvement but massive anterior segment spread.
The case is described of a unilateral retinoblastoma in a 7-year-old girl which was initially misdiagnosed because of massive anterior segment involvement in the apparent absence of a retinal lesion. Only on histopathological examination of the enucleated eye was the presence of retinal tumour established, this being confined to two minute foci at the extreme periphery.
