Department of Nuclear Engineering, Graduate School of Enginering, Nagoya University, Furo-cho, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, Japan ABSTRACT Radon (Rn) diffusion coefficient as one of some important parameters of Rn transport in the soil has been measured using soil radon diffusion monitor (SRDM). The system of SRDM consists of two scintillation detectors, sample container located between these detectors, photomultiplier tubes, amplifiers, single channel analyzers and personal computer. The source of Rn is put in the one of the compartment, and Rn will diffuse through the sample to other compartment. The diffusion coefficient was determined by calculating the measured data from two detectors using time-dependent diffusion model. The samples come from different places in Japan with several porosities and water contents. The diffusion coefficients were found to vary from (8.68±0.23) x10 ms to (4.39±0.43) x10 ms. Furthermore, the correlations between Rn diffusion and water content and/or porosity are also discussed.

Sensitivity of LR115 detector in diffusion chamber to 222Rn in the presence of 220Rn.

Determination has been made of the sensitivity of LR115 type 2-track detectors (in units of m) to 222Rn, measured in the presence of 220Rn. Measurements have been made by means of a widely used diffusion chamber while Monte Carlo simulations have also been conducted. The experimentally derived sensitivities for 222Rn and 220Rn were found to be 0.470+/-0.022 and 0.486+/-0.042 m, respectively. Fo...

Release of 222Rn from some soils

Measurements have been made of 222Rn release from diverse soils in the region surrounding Málaga, Spain. These flux measurements were carried out by two methods. A direct method using a static chamber technique and another indirect method obtained from concentration profile measurements of 222Rn in the soil air. The effects of meteorological variables and other parameters on 222Rn flux were stu...

222Rn IN THE PRESENCE OF 220Rn

The sensitivities (in m) of bare LR115 detectors and detectors in diffusion chambers to 222Rn and 220Rn chains are calculated by the Monte Carlo method. The partial sensitivities of bare detectors to the 222Rn chain are larger than those to the 220Rn chain, which is due to the higher energies of alpha particles in the 220Rn chain and the upper energy limit for detection for the LR115 detector. ...

سرعت رهاسازی پتاسیم غیر تبادلی با استفاده از اسید سیتریک و کلرید کلسیم رقیق در خاک‌های زراعی سری‌های غالب استان گلستان

Kinetical study on non-exchangeable potassium (NEK) release is necessary for management, optimum use of soil resources, availability and supplying power of potassium. Information about NEK release rate in Golestan soils is limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the NEK release of saturated soil sample by calcium using acid citric and CaCl2 extractants from 2 to 1844 h duration in 12 ...

Evaluation of archived and off-line diagnosed vertical diffusion coefficients from ERA-40 with 222Rn simulations

Boundary layer turbulence has a profound influence on the distribution of tracers with sources or sinks at the surface. The 40-year ERA-40 meteorological data set of the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts contains archived vertical diffusion coefficients. We evaluated the use of these archived diffusion coefficients versus off-line diagnosed coefficients based on other meteorolo...
