چکیده

A new g-tracking method based on the Compton-scattering probability of photons in a spectrometer composed of segmented Ge detectors has been developed and evaluated with the GEANT 3 simulation code. The performance of this probabilistic method, in terms of photopeak detection efficiency and peak-to-total ratio calculated for a 4p array composed of planar detectors, is comparable with the ones obtained with the previous g-tracking methods. Furthermore, the algorithm has been tested successfully with single detection units of other crystal shapes. A simple application is also proposed as a peak-to-total ratio enhancer for bare segmented Ge crystals in replacement of the Compton-suppression shield. r 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Digital Timing Algorithm for High Purity Germanium Detectors

The next generation of γ-ray detector arrays will be composed of large volume high purity germanium (HPGE) detectors that are electronically segmented. These detectors will be able to track γ-rays as they Compton scatter within the crystal and between adjacent crystals, eliminating the need for Compton suppression detectors and improving angular resolution. The new arrays will have much higher ...

Tracking of gamma-ray interactions in germanium detectors can allow reconstruction of the photon paths, and is useful for many applications. Scrutiny of the kine-matics and geometry of gamma rays which are Compton scattered only once prior to full absorption reveals that there are cases where even perfect spatial and energy resolution cannot resolve the true interaction sequence and consequentl...

TANGO - A New Tracking Algorithm for Gamma-Rays

The rapidly advancing field of the nuclear spectroscopy into a large extend owes its success to the progress in the development of gamma-ray detectors. A new generation of germanium spectrometers employing principles of gamma-ray tracking like AGATA [1], GRETA [2] and DESPEC [3] are expected to make a significant improvement in the efficiency and the Peak/Total ratio over the presently existing...

Development of Germanium Strip Detectors for Environmental Remediation1

We present the initial results of the first germanium strip detector array for the imaging and high-resolution spectroscopy of gamma-ray sources. The array consists of four detectors, 5 x 5 x 1 cm each with 25 strips on each side. The detectors are daisy-chained to hybrid preamplifiers to reduce the number of channels of electronics. Good spectroscopy and imaging are achieved. We also present r...
