Fractionation of abdominal muscle in tumor-bearing, starved, and cortisone-treated rats.

چکیده
Abdominal muscle of rats bearing Walker carcinosarcoma 256 was fractionated into 11 protein subfractions. The results were quantitatively compared with normal, starved, and cortisonetreated animals. Carcass nitrogen was determined as well. Although approximately equal losses of carcass protein were observed in severely starved animals, in animals which re sponded most severely to cortisone administration, and in animals bearing the largest tumors, the patterns of loss of individual protein fractions from abdominal muscle were dis tinctly different with each treatment.

Glucose homeostasis in rats bearing a transplantable sarcoma.
The importance of gluconeogenesis for the maintenance of normoglycemia in rats bearing a transplantable sarcoma has been studied. Blood glucose concentrations remained within the normal fed range until the tumor/body weight ratio was greater than 0.15. In rats with tumor/body weight ratios be tween 0.31 and 0.50, the blood glucose was significantly lower than normal but was similar to blood glu...
متن کاملChanges in proteolytic enzyme systems of rat tissues in response to heterologous growth of human ovarian tumors.
Studies were made to determine the effect of heterologous growth of a human ovarian tumor on the proteolytic enzyme system of various tissues of weanling rats conditioned with cortisone and x-radiation. Conditioning per se had no effect on the activities of the tissues studied. Significant increases were observed in both aminopeptidase and cathepsin B activities of liver, kidney, and spleen of ...
متن کاملComparison of hepatic cathepsin D activity in response to tumor growth and to caloric restriction in mice.
In malignant disease, the caloric intake is often reduced. We have studied the role of this nutritional deprivation in increased lysosomal enzyme activities in liver and muscle tissue in tumorbearing mice. Three study groups were used: Group 1, sarcoma-bearing mice (MCG 101); Group 2, starved mice; Group 3, mice pair fed according to the ad libitum intake of the tumor-bearing animals. Cathepsin...
متن کاملParticipation of the immune system in regression of a rat Mc7 sarcoma by hyperthermia.
Participation of the host immune response in eradication of tumor by hyperthermia has been suspected for a long time. The effect of local tumor heating on the immunocompetence of rats bearing Mc7 sarcoma was studied. Following heat treatment of 1- to 1.5-ml foot tumors at 43 degrees for 2 hr, regression of primary tumors resulted in host cure (15 of 21; 71%), and this was accompanied by an incr...
