چکیده

The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is the transfer mode recommended for the broad integrated service digital network (B-ISDN) by ITU-T. In this paper, we propose a self-routing fault-tolerant switching architecture for ATM networks. The proposed architecture uses subswitches and extra links to provide alternative paths; hence, can tolerate multiple faults. Analytical results show that the total number of redundant paths increases exponentially as the size of the network increases. A simulation model is developed. Simulation results indicate that the proposed architecture is much more fault-tolerant and cost-effective than those architectures found in the literature. Simulation results also illustrate that the proposed architecture still maintains a high throughput with an acceptable cell delay time, even when the number of faulty elements increases. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. We propose a simple distance-vector protocol for routing in networks having unidirectional links. The protocol can be seen as an adaptation for these networks of the strategy as used in the popular RIP protocol. The protocol comprises two main algorithms, one for collecting “from” information, and the other one for generating and propagating “to” information. Like the RIP protocol, this one can...

Source models of network game traffic

We study the traffic generated by sessions of a popular multi-player network game. Our analysis indicates that empirical game traffic can be characterized well by certain analytical models. While clients and servers, as well as hosts with different configurations, produce different models, all models from the game are well modeled by the same families of distributions. We find that some data se...
