Improving simulation of wireless networked control systems based on WirelessHART

چکیده
The scalability and flexibility of wireless networks are the basis of the growing success of Wireless Networked Control Systems (WNCSs). Both the HART Communication Foundation and the ISA association have recently proposed their own standard for a wireless fieldbus (WirelessHART ratified in 2007, and ISA100.11a ratified in 2009, respectively). However, WNCSs performances are hard to verify in the real world, since test beds are expensive and difficult to implement. The answer to this question is the adoption of co-simulation, which is the joint and simultaneous simulation of both physical and communication network dynamics. This paper proposes the use of a framework based on the interaction of TrueTime, together with a cross layer wireless networks simulator based on OMNET++. The proposed approach allows overcoming limits in the simulation of network aspects implemented in the TrueTime package, introducing a scalable level of details in the simulated scenario. Great attention has been paid in the OMNET++ models to accurately modelling peculiar aspects of the network and of the devices, for instance overcoming usual assumptions often made on physical and MAC layers. The support to the simulation of coexistence management between wireless networks in the same area has been improved. As an application example, a scenario involving a system controlled by a WirelessHART network has been considered; the analysis of some aspects concerning the control performance and coexistence immunity of WirelessHART with respect to the traditional IEEE802.15.4, has been carried out.

متن کاملModelling and Compensation of uncertain time-delays in networked control systems with plant uncertainty using an Improved RMPC Method
Control systems with digital communication between sensors, controllers and actuators are called as Networked Control Systems (NCSs). In general, NCSs encounter with some problems such as packet dropouts and network induced delays. When plant uncertainty is added to the aforementioned problems, the design of the robust controller that is able to guarantee the stability, becomes more complex. In...
متن کاملProblem of Packet Loss in Wirelesshart Network
The problem of packet loss in wireless networks is considered and described in the paper. An introduction to the main causes of the problem are described first. Then the behaviour of different wireless protocols (Wlan, ZigBee, WirelessHART) is presented and described. Some possible techniques to reduce the effects of packets loss in a wirelessHART networked control system are analyzed in the la...
متن کاملTime Delay and Data Dropout Compensation in Networked Control Systems Using Extended Kalman Filter
In networked control systems, time delay and data dropout can degrade the performance of the control system and even destabilize the system. In the present paper, the Extended Kalman filter is employed to compensate the effects of time delay and data dropout in feedforward and feedback paths of networked control systems. In the proposed method, the extended Kalman filter is used as an observer ...
متن کاملCentralized Control of Wireless Sensor Networks for Real-time Applications
Wireless sensor networks are usually composed of autonomous nodes. Each networked node constructs its own neighbor table, routing table, and schedules internal tasks on its own. However, the inherently distributed control in a sensor network conflicts with the deterministic requirements when we develop real-time applications on top of wireless sensor networks. In this paper we argue for the cas...
