Previous history.?About 15 years ago when working as a porter, a heavy bundle, which he was carrying on his shoulders, accidentally slipped down and fell over his left knee. He immediately felt like a snap as if something within the joint gave away, and a swelling resulted, which became very painful and confined him to bed for several days. He applied native medicines and, when the acute symptoms abated, he resumed his duties. The swelling, however, continued to increase, though very slowly, till it attained the present size, and made him quite a cripple. Tired of dragging on this
