A Novel Fully Automated Soil Erosion Monitoring System
نویسندگان
چکیده
Soil erosion is one of the biggest global environmental problems. Finding new innovative systems to measure soil erosion more accurately is a priority. An effort is being carried out in this study to use automated electronics in order to systematically and accurately measure soil erosion. In addition, the frequent measurements taken will help collect a large amount of data on soil erosion. The design of an autonomous, fully automated and remotely controlled soil erosion monitoring system is presented in this work. A novel approach that uses ultrasounds to detect ground level changes with very good accuracy (less than 1mm), is proposed. The presented setup is capable of monitoring other import parameters related to soil erosion, such as soil moisture, soil temperature and rainfall. The collected data will be used to further understand soil erosion processes that will help land managers mitigate this problem effectively and efficiently.

Geographic information system and process-based modeling of soil erosion and sediment yield in agricultural watershed
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The study explored the capability of the geographic information system interface for the water erosion prediction project, a process-based model, to predict and visualize the specific location of soil erosion and sediment yield from the agricultural watershed of Taganibong. METHODS: The method involved the preparation of the fou...
متن کاملUnmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for Monitoring Soil Erosion in Morocco
This article presents an environmental remote sensing application using a UAV that is specifically aimed at reducing the data gap between field scale and satellite scale in soil erosion monitoring in Morocco. A fixed-wing aircraft type Sirius I (MAVinci, Germany) equipped with a digital system camera (Panasonic) is employed. UAV surveys are conducted over different study sites with varying exte...
متن کاملAssessing the Potential of the Object Modeling System (OMS) for Erosion Prediction Modeling
ABSTRACT. Current challenges in soil erosion research have created demand for integrated, flexible, and easily parameterized sediment transport models. Most of the existing monolithic erosion models (e.g., WEPP and WEPS) are not modular, thus modifications require considerable time, effort, and expense. In this paper, the feasibility and challenges of using the Object Modeling System (OMS) for ...
متن کاملMapping wind erosion hazard in Australia using MODIS-derived ground cover, soil moisture and climate data
This paper describes spatial modeling methods to identify wind erosion hazard (WEH) areas across Australia using the recently available time-series products of satellitederived ground cover, soil moisture and wind speed. We implemented the approach and data sets in a geographic information system to produce WEH maps for Australia at 500 m ground resolution on a monthly basis for the recent thir...
متن کاملLAND USE: U.S. Soil Erosion Rates--Myth and Reality.
No problem of resource or environmental management can be rationally addressed until its true space and time dimensions are known. The limitations of the universal soil loss equation and the wind erosion equation are such that we do not seem to have a truly informed idea of how much soil erosion is occurring in this country, let alone of the processes of sediment movement and deposition. The un...
