چکیده

In the last years, FTTH (Fiber-to-the-home) networks became an excellent solution to deliver broadband internet access and TV services. A furthermore integration of IRUWB (Impulse-radio ultra-wideband) signals into GPON (Gigabit-Passive-Optical-Network) technology is analyzed, with opportunity to allow wireless distribution of high definition video over a future personal area network. It is concluded that by using the modulation of same 1550 nm wavelength, IR-UWB multicast signals can coexist with the CATV (Community Antenna Television) analog signals and an easy adaptation of GPON communication systems is necessary to support this extension. Keywords—Fiber-to-the-home(FTTH) access networks; Impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB); Community Antenna Television (CATV); Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON).

Tuning UWB signals by pulse shaping: Towards context-aware wireless networks

Tuning spectra by pulse shaping is feasible in both impulse radio (IR) and continuous radio transmissions, since, as well known, the impulse response of the pulse shaper affects the spectral properties of radiated signals. What is peculiar to IRUWB, and makes pulse shaping particularly appealing, is the impulsive nature of the carrier. Given their very short duration, transmitted pulses in diff...

Solving the Two-Stage Robust FTTH network design Problem under Demand Uncertainty

For the past few years, the increase in high bandwidth requiring services forced telecommunication operators like France Telecom Orange to engage the deployment of optical networks, the Fiber To The Home Gigabit Passive Optical Network (FTTH GPON) technology, leading to new design problems. Such problems have already been studied. However, to the best of our knowledge, without taking into accou...

A novel approach for estimating multi-user interference in impulse radio UWB networks: The pulse collision model

Modeling Multi-User Interference (MUI) is crucial in the design of wireless networks. In the case of Impulse Radio (IR)Ultra Wide Band (UWB) networks, most of the adopted models are inspired by the legacy of the reference literature on spread spectrum communications, and do not address specific features for IR systems, where spectrum spreading is basically obtained by the radiation of very shor...

Implementation-Aware System-Level Simulations for IR-UWB Receivers: Approach and Design Methodology

Impulse-Radio Ultra-Wide Band technology (IR-UWB) allocates very large bandwidth with short duration pulses. Interest for research started in 2002 when Federal Communication Commission (FCC) normed the power spectral densities allowed for unintentional and unlicensed UWB radiators in the pre-existing full communication band 0-10GHz FCC (2002). An ultra-wide band pulse has some unique features c...

Comparing FTTH Access Networks based on P2P and PMP Fibre Topologies

There is an ongoing discussion in the market which NGA architecture best suits future needs, which investment and cost differences do exist and to which part they may contribute to the overall result. The discussion can be subsumed as P2P vs. GPON, which is somewhat misleading as our study reveals. The discussion is driven by the fact that the high capital cost and the long asset life time of f...
