چکیده
on the perception of speech in many different environments, hearing healthcare providers may sometimes overlook other signals, such as music, that may be very meaningful to the patient. Because hearing instruments are designed to focus on speech, music lovers and musicians are often disappointed by the sound quality of music. Settings and electroacoustic characteristics of hearing instruments may be ideal for speech signals, but not for music.1 As a result, hearing instruments may react inappropriately when music is present, since there are many acoustic differences between speech and music. Music Engineering as a Novel Strategy for Enhancing Music Enjoyment in the Cochlear Implant Recipient
OBJECTIVE Enjoyment of music remains an elusive goal following cochlear implantation. We test the hypothesis that reengineering music to reduce its complexity can enhance the listening experience for the cochlear implant (CI) listener. METHODS Normal hearing (NH) adults (N = 16) and CI listeners (N = 9) evaluated a piece of country music on three enjoyment modalities: pleasantness, musicality...

متن کاملExploring the effect of interface constraints on live collaborative music improvisation
This research investigates how applying interaction constraints to digital music instruments (DMIs) affects the way that experienced music performers collaborate and find creative ways to make live improvised music on stage. The constraints are applied in two forms: i) Physically implemented on the instruments themselves, and ii) hidden rules that are defined on a network between the instrument...
متن کاملMusic Programming in Minim
Our team realized that there was a need in the Minim audio library of the Processing programming environment for a music programming interface. The audience for this new interface is the novice programmer interested in using music as part of the learning experience, though the interface also needs to be complex enough to benefit the more experienced artist-programmer. We collected ideas from ma...
متن کاملNew Public-Domain Realizations of Standard Pieces for Instruments and Live Electronics
We describe here our efforts to make it easier to perform certain well-known pieces from the live electronic music repertory, without resorting to special hardware or proprietary software. We hope that these realizations of the electronic parts of the pieces will be longer-lasting than previous realizations have been, and that they will make it possible to perform the music with a much smaller ...
