The Performance of Sugarcane Varieties N23 and N25 on Low Yield Potential Soils in Swaziland
ثبت نشده
چکیده
South African sugarcane varieties N23 and N25 were compared against industry standards NCo376 and N19 on soils with low yield potential in four replicated, irrigated trials comprising a total of 17 crops, harvested either early, mid or late in the milling season. Chemical ripeners ethephon (2-chloroethanephosphonic acid) and Fusilade Super (fluazifop-p-butyl) were applied either alone or as a combination treatment in two early season experiments, while Fusilade Super, ethephon or Kadostim was applied in one mid season experiment when conditions allowed.

The Effect of Ratoon Stunting Disease on the Yield of Some South African Sugarcane Varieties under Irrigated and Rainfed Conditions
The results of two field trials to determine the effect of ratoon stunting disease on the growth and yield of some widely grown and newly released sugarcane varieties are described. In the plant crop of a trial grown under full irrigation, the greatest reductions in yields of cane and sugar among six varieties, approximately 15%, occurred in N 14 and NC0376. In the first ratoon, the greatest re...
متن کاملEVIDENCE FOR DIFFERENT NITROGEN USE EFFlClENClES OF SELECTED SUGARCANE VARIETIES
A rapid screening (hydroponic) and field testing programme There is increasing interest in improving the nitrogen (N) use efficiency of cultivated crops, due to the high cost of synthetic N fertiliser. Since existing differences in N use efficiency between sugarcane varieties could be exploited to improve N fertilisation, a hydroponic pot experiment was conducted to test the performance of seve...
متن کاملFurther Evidence of the Effects of Ratoon Stunting Disease on Production under Irrigated and Rainfed Conditions
In a field experiment under rainfed conditions, reductions in cane yield over three crops due to infection by ratoon stunting disease (RSD) ranged from 41% to 19 % respectively in varieties N17, N14, N21, NCo376 and N19. Losses in Nl2 were 10%, and in N23 and N22 were 7% and 1%. In a similar trial conducted under irrigation, the greatest reductions in cane yield over two crops were 32% in varie...

Finding the appropriate parents for breeding programs is the main aim of selecting in drought tolerant crops and landraces under stresses conditions. In present survey, eigthey wheat landraces and varieties from different areas of Iran were evaluated in Gorgan agricultural research station (as a normal or potential yield) and Mazrae-Nemoneh (as under stress condition) during two years (1999-200...
متن کاملComparison of Selected Commercial Sugarcane Varieties for Use in a Stable Transformation Programme
Ten commercial sugarcane varieties, N12, N14, N19, N24, N25, N26, N27, 75E247, 84E1334 and NCo376 were tested for suitability for transformation in terms of their embryogenic callus production and transient expression levels. Based on an increase in callus mass over time, varieties N12, N19, N27, NCo376 and 84E1334 outperformed other varieties on Murashige and Skoog medium containing 2,4-dichlo...
