Non-Monotonic Phase Transition Edges in the Spatial Prisoners’ Dilemma

چکیده
Simulations of complex systems models provide a numerical laboratory for studying emergent spatial phenomena. We report on simulations of the 2dimensional spatial prisoners’ dilemma with both 4and 8-neighbour playoffs. We identify non-monotonic dependence of the convergent population of defectors with the variation of defection temptation reward in the 8-neighbour system. We present somemicroscopic configuration analyses to explain this phase transitional effect.

Roles of Space and Geometry in the Spatial Prisoners’ Dilemma
The spatial prisoners’ dilemma is a useful model in stochastic game theory that can help probe spatial complexity classes and quantify macroscopic emergent properties. Repeated simulation experiments with different temptation payo↵ parameter values and with varying initial proportions of defector players indicate a detailed structure in phase space that exhibits sharp transitions regardless of ...

The evolution of cooperative behaviour is studied in the deterministic version of the Prisoners’ Dilemma on a two-dimensional lattice. The payoff parameter is set at the critical region 1.8 < b < 2.0 , where clusters of cooperators are formed in all spatial sizes. Using the factorial moments developed in particle and nuclear physics for the study of phase transition, the distribution of coopera...

متن کاملPhase-transition-like Behavior of Quantum Games
Abstract. The discontinuous dependence of the properties of a quantum game on its entanglement has been shown up to be very much like phase transitions viewed in the entanglement-payoff diagram [J. Du et al., Phys. Rev. Lett, 88, 137902 (2002)]. In this paper we investigate such phase-transition-like behavior of quantum games, by suggesting a method which would help to illuminate the origin of ...
