چکیده

The present study was conducted to know the prevalence of Salmonella and E.coli serovars in pigs at different localities of Andhra Pradesh as non typhoidal Salmonella strains and E.coli are important causes of reportable food borne infection. Among 101 faecal samples screened six isolates of Salmonella ie. S. derby (3) , S.typhimurium (2) and S.typhisuis (1) and twenty isolates of E.coli viz. 01, 02, 05, 08,010 ,012, 022, 024, 060, 088, 089, 092, 0123, 0138, 0154, 0159 whereas four E.coli isolates untypeable were identified and serotyped at central research institute, Kasauli. The isolates have shown remarkable resistance to the commonly used antibiotics viz, oxytetracycline, furazolidone, ampicillin + cloxacillin, doxycycline and erythromycin out of eleven antibiotics used for disc assay tests, which enlightens the need for judicial use of antibiotics in pig farms to reduce the incidence of emerging multi drug resistant pathogens.
