چکیده

Background 3D T1-weighted contrast-enhanced MRA (CE-MRA) is routinely used for non-invasive evaluation of the thoracic aorta. However, competing demands of high spatial resolution and fast (breath-hold) acquisition often preclude ECG-gating, leading to motion artifact at the aortic root. Standard Cartesian-sampled ECG-gated CE-MRA acquires 1 partition per heartbeat resulting in long scan times, often exceeding breath-hold capabilities. We evaluated image quality and diagnostic capabilities of a novel ECG-gated CE-MRA utilizing alternative Cartesian k-space sampling whereby adjacent ky and kz points are acquired in a zigzag pattern (Z-MRA) to improve scanning efficiency and co-ordinate contrast timing with optimal cardiac phase acquisition.

Comparison of native high-resolution 3D and contrast-enhanced MR angiography for assessing the thoracic aorta.

AIMS To omit risks of contrast agent administration, native magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is desired for assessing the thoracic aorta. The aim was to evaluate a native steady-state free precession (SSFP) three-dimensional (3D) MRA in comparison with contrast-enhanced MRA as the gold standard. METHODS AND RESULTS Seventy-six prospective patients with known or suspicion of thoracic aorti...

Native high-resolution 3D SSFP MR angiography for assessing the thoracic aorta

Methods Seventy-six prospective patients with known or suspicion of thoracic aortic disease underwent MRA at 1.5T using i) native 3D SSFP MRA with ECG and navigator gating and high isotropic spatial resolution (1.3 × 1.3 × 1.3 mm 3) and ii) conventional contrast-enhanced ECG-gated gradient echo 3D MRA (1.3 × 0.8 × 1.8 mm 3). Datasets were compared at 9 aortic levels regarding image quality (sco...

A Comparison of Cardiac-synchronized and Unsynchronized Gadolinium-enhanced Three-dimensional Magnetic Resonance Angiography of the Thoracic Aorta

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare multi-slab cardiac-synchronized breath-hold Gd-enhanced threedimensional MR angiography (1) with unsynchronized breath-hold three-dimensional MR angiography(Z-4) in patients for the evaluation of thoracic aortic disease. We hypothesized that the use of cardiac-synchronization should minimally provide the same diagnostic information and additiona...

Contrast-enhanced MR angiography at 3T in the evaluation of intracranial aneurysms: a comparison with time-of-flight MR angiography.

The combination of 3T and parallel-acquisition techniques holds promise for improved performance of contrast-enhanced MR angiography (MRA), in terms of speed, spatial resolution, and coverage. We present a comparison of 2 MRA techniques, including time-of-flight (TOF) and contrast-enhanced MRA, for detection and evaluation of intracranial aneurysms. Our results show that contrast-enhanced MRA w...
