چکیده
Hellenic Journal of Nuclear Medicine ñ May August 2007 To the Editor: A 38 years old woman with a history of Hodgkin’s disease after a course of chemotherapy was referred to our PET/CT department to search for possible recurrent disease. After 6 h of fasting, her serum glucose level was 103 mg/dl and the patient was injected intravenously (i.v.) with 510,6 MBq of 18F-FDG. The patient was imaged after one hour using a dedicated Siemens Biograph LSO HI-REZ integrated PET/CT camera. The CT scan without i.v. contrast medium, was used for anatomical landmarking and attenuation correction. The scan depicted no recurrent disease but showed situs inversus (Figs 1A, 1B and 1C). Situs inversus is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by transposition of organs to the opposite side of the body. The overall incidence of this anomaly is in the region of 1:5000 to 1:20,000, and being slightly more common in males [1]. Situs inversus may be complete (situs inversus totalis) or partial (situs inversus partialis) confined to either the thoracic or the abdominal viscera [2]. This anomaly apparently does not influence normal life expectancy [3]. Although this anomaly is not considered to be a premalignant entity, several malignant neoplasms have been reported in association with situs inversus totalis[1,4,5], as well as hepatic cirrhosis [6] and calculus cholocystitis [7].

Neither was aware of his unusual anatomy. One case unaware two just right heart. Both patients were referred to the Imaging Department for CT scans and some radiographic studies. We discovered they ...
متن کاملTriage of Limited Versus Extensive Disease on 18F-FDG PET/CT Scan in Small Cell lung Cancer
Objective(s): Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive neuroendocrine carcinoma, which accounts for 10-15% of pulmonary cancers and exhibits early metastatic spread. This study aimed to determine the added value of 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging of SCLC, compared to the conventional computed tomography (CT) scan and its potential role as a prognosticat...
متن کاملValue of Dedicated Head and Neck 18F-FDG PET/CT Protocol in Detecting Recurrent and Metastatic Lesions in Post-surgical Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma Patients with High Serum Thyroglobulin Level and Negative 131I Whole-body Scan
Objective(s): In clinical practice, approximately 10-25% of post-surgical differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) patients with high serum thyroglobulin (Tg) and negative 131I whole-body scan (WBS) have poor prognosis due to recurrent or metastatic lesions after radioactive iodine treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of 18F-FDG PET/CT scan in DTC patients with high seru...
متن کاملSitus Inversus Totalis - A Case Report
SITUS INVERSUS TOTALIS is a congenital positional anomaly characterized by transposition of abdominal viscera associated with a right sided heart (Dextrocardia) .It was Mathew Baillie who first described situs inversus totalis in early twentieth century. A transposed thoracic and abdominal organ is a mirror image of the normal anatomy when examined or visualized by tests such as x-ray filming. ...
