A generalization of Villarreal's result for unmixed tripartite graphs

‎In this paper we give a characterization of unmixed tripartite‎ ‎graphs under certain conditions which is a generalization of a‎ ‎result of Villarreal on bipartite graphs‎. ‎For bipartite graphs two‎ ‎different characterizations were given by Ravindra and Villarreal‎. ‎We show that these two characterizations imply each other‎.

Colorings of Hypergraphs, Perfect Graphs, and Associated Primes of Powers of Monomial Ideals

Let H denote a finite simple hypergraph. The cover ideal of H, denoted by J = J(H), is the monomial ideal whose minimal generators correspond to the minimal vertex covers of H. We give an algebraic method for determining the chromatic number of H, proving that it is equivalent to a monomial ideal membership problem involving powers of J . Furthermore, we study the sets Ass(R/Js) by exploring th...

Even-hole-free graphs: a survey

The class of even-hole-free graphs is structurally quite similar to the class of perfect graphs, which was the key initial motivation for their study. The techniques developed in the study of even-hole-free graphs were generalized to other complex hereditary graph classes, and in the case of perfect graphs led to the famous resolution of the Strong Perfect Graph Conjecture and their polynomial ...

On clique-perfect and K-perfect graphs

A graph G is clique-perfect if the cardinality of a maximum cliqueindependent set of H is equal to the cardinality of a minimum cliquetransversal of H, for every induced subgraph H of G. When equality holds for every clique subgraph of G, the graph is c–clique-perfect. A graph G is K-perfect when its clique graph K(G) is perfect. In this work, relations are described among the classes of perfec...

My favorite application using eigenvalues: Eigenvalues and the Graham-Pollak Theorem

The famous Graham-Pollak Theorem states that one needs at least n− 1 complete bipartite subgraphs to partition the edge set of the complete graph on n vertices. Originally proved in conjunction with addressing for networking problems, this theorem is also related to perfect hashing and various questions about communication complexity. Since it’s original proof using Sylvester’s Law of Intertia,...
