چکیده

The results of a detailed study of errors in a musical database are presented. It is shown that the form of analytic processing employed may substantially magnify the effect of database errors so that very small error rates can produce very large errors in the analytic results. An equation is devised to assist in estimating the effect of an overall error-rate on arbitrary analytic measures derived from the database. Considering the potential for erroneous or misleading analytic results, it is recommended that scholars using computerbased methods should habitually calculate error rates associated with their analytic procedures, and ought to present an analysis of errors in tandem with their results in order to validate their interpretations. Four methods of error detection are examined: manual proof-reading, double-entry method, programmed syntactic checking, and programmed heuristics. Significant differences were found in the thoroughness of different detection methods in uncovering all errors of a given type. The doubleentry method was found to be superior to all other methods of detection; the humanities scholar's traditional allegiance to manual proof-reading was not supported by this study. Programmed methods of error detection were found to be fallible, but nonetheless useful.

Automatic Music Transcription Based on Wavelet Transform

In this paper, we introduce a method which uses a note model and signal post processing for a musical instrument to make a piece of music .one of the important issues in note transcription is extraction of multiple pitches. Most of the examined methods face error in joint harmonics and frequencies. A good model for note of a specified musical instrument can help us identify a note better. The p...

Classification of Iranian traditional musical modes (DASTGÄH) with artificial neural network

The concept of Iranian traditional musical modes, namely DASTGÄH, is the basis for the traditional music system. The concept introduces seven DASTGÄHs. It is not an easy process to distinguish these modes and such practice is commonly performed by an experienced person in this field. Apparently, applying artificial intelligence to do such classification requires a combination of the basic infor...

A Hierarchical Classification Method for Breast Tumor Detection

Introduction Breast cancer is the second cause of mortality among women. Early detection of it can enhance the chance of survival. Screening systems such as mammography cannot perfectly differentiate between patients and healthy individuals. Computer-aided diagnosis can help physicians make a more accurate diagnosis. Materials and Methods Regarding the importance of separating normal and abnorm...

Fisher Discriminant Analysis (FDA), a supervised feature reduction method in seismic object detection

Automatic processes on seismic data using pattern recognition is one of the interesting fields in geophysical data interpretation. One part is the seismic object detection using different supervised classification methods that finally has an output as a probability cube. Object detection process starts with generating a pickset of two classes labeled as object and non-object and then selecting ...

Identifying singers of popular songs

In this paper, we propose to identify the singers of popular songs using vibrato characteristics and high level musical knowledge of song structure. The proposed framework starts with a vocal detection process followed by a hypothesis test for the vocal/non-vocal verification. This method allows us to select vocal segments of high confidence for singer identification. From the selected vocal se...
