The Diagnosis of Circulatory Shunts
نویسنده
چکیده
a higher N20 concentration and an earlier sampling period result in a larger arteriovenous N20 difference that increases the sensitivity of the test and further minimizes the importance of possible analytic errors. In addition, a method is described of determining the magnitude of the shunt from the results of a N20 test. The results of 150 N20 tests performed with the improved technic are presented, and compared to the results obtained with the 0 method in a group of patients on whom both tests were carried out.

Hyperventilation test for diagnosis of left-to-right circulatory shunts.
Pulmonary and systemic arterial carbon dioxide tensions (Pco2) were measured at cardiac catheterization in I.f patients with left-to-right circulatory shunts and in irS patients with valvular heart disease. The measurements were performed under resting conditions and at 5-sec intervals during a 30-sec period of hyperventilation. In both groups the systemic arterial Pco2 fell significantly durin...
متن کاملA Protocol for Diagnosis and Management of Cerebrospinal Shunt Infections and other Infectious Conditions in Neurosurgical Practice
Infections of the cerebrospinal shunts and other neurosurgical structures are not uncommon in the clinical practice. These infections are mostly clinical emergencies carrying negative prognostic impacts on the patients as well as spending healthcare resources. The low pathogenicity nature of some implicated pathogens results in minimal physical signs that may complicate the diagnosis and mislea...
متن کاملA Lumped Parameter Method to Calculate the Effect of Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion on Anterior Cerebral Artery Pressure Waveform
Background and Objective: Numerical modeling of biological structures would be very helpful tool to analyze hundreds of human body phenomena and also diseases diagnosis. One physiologic phenomenon is blood circulatory system and heart hemodynamic performance that can be simulated by utilizing lumped method. In this study, we can predict hemodynamic behavior of one artery of circulatory system (...
متن کاملRadiation-related neoplasms, circulatory diseases, and cataracts among radiological technologists
Background: In response to the need for diagnosis and treatment, medical radiation has been increasingly used worldwide. This study investigated the medical utilization of radiation-related diseases among radiological technologists (RTs) and factors that influence such diseases. Materials and Methods: Data were collected from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. A panel study...
متن کاملThe krypton85 inhalation test for the detection of left-to-right shunts.
One of the primary reasons for performing cardiac catheterization in patients known to have, or suspected of having, congenital heart disease is to determine whether a left-to-right shunt is present and the site at which it enters the right side of the heart. Although a variety of techniques for the detection of such shunts has been developed (Wood et al., 1957, 1958; Zimmerman, 1959; Braunwald...
متن کاملExperience with three Brescia-Cimino shunts.
Bresica-Cimino shunts inserted to facilitate intermittent dialysis may markedly increase the circulatory load on the heart. Three patients in whom there was evidence of overload are described. Thorough investigation of the cardiac output should be made in patients with fistulae of this kind, which should be closed as soon as practicable after transplantation.
