Extensor Mechanism Macrotraumatic Complications

چکیده
Macrotraumatic extensor mechanism complications do occur after central third patellar tendon harvest for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and include intraor postoperative patella fracture and patellar tendon rupture. These are significant complications that often require additional surgery. Intraoperative precision when harvesting the patellar tendon, bone grafting the donor sites and implementing contemporary postoperative rehabilitation and bracing protocols may minimize their occurrence.

Bilateral extensor mechanism disruption after total knee arthroplasty in two morbidly obese patients.
Disruption of the extensor mechanism as a result of patellar tendon or quadriceps tendon rupture is an uncommon but devastating complication after total knee arthroplasty. Treating a disrupted extensor mechanism can be challenging, particularly in patients who are morbidly obese, due to an increased risk of postoperative complications. Therefore, despite the debilitating nature of extensor mech...

Complications involving the knee extensor mechanism and patellofemoral joint occur in 1% to 12% of patients following total knee arthroplasty and have major negative effects on patient outcomes and satisfaction. The surgeon must be aware of intraoperative, postoperative, and patient-related factors that can increase the rate of these problems. This review focuses on six of the most commonly enc...

متن کاملPatellar fractures in adults.
Patellar fracture is a common injury caused by excessive tension through the extensor mechanism or a direct blow. The intact patella increases the leverage and efficiency of the extensor mechanism and articulates with the femoral trochlea. Patellar fractures can lead to stiffness, extension weakness, and patellofemoral arthritis. Nonsurgical management is indicated for nondisplaced fractures wi...
