Gas exchange, photochemical efficiency, and leaf water potentials

چکیده
Gas exchange, photochemical efficiency, and leaf water potential (Ψl) of Salix matsudana (non-indigenous species), S. microstachya and S. gordejevii (indigenous species) were studied in Hunshandak Sandland, China. Ψl of all the three species decreased from 06:00 to 12:00, and increased afterwards. S. matsudana showed higher values of Ψl than others. Net photosynthetic rate (PN) and stomatal conductance (gs) of S. matsudana were the lowest among all, with the maximum PN at 10:00 being 75 % of that of S. gordejevii. Compared with the indigenous species, the non-indigenous S. matsudana had also lower transpiration rate (E) and water use efficiency (WUE). The values of Fv/Fm in all the species were lower from 06:00 to 14:00 than those after 14:00, indicating an obvious depression in photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2 in both non-indigenous and native species. However, it was much more depressed in S. matsudana, the non-indigenous tree. PN was positively correlated to gs and negatively related to Ψl. The relationship between gs and vapour pressure difference (VPD) was exponential, while negative linear correlation was found between gs and Ψl. Additional key words: chlorophyll fluorescence; diurnal courses; leaf water potential; net photosynthetic rate; non-indigenous species; Salix species; stomatal conductance; transpiration rate; water use efficiency.

The influence of endophyte fungus piriformospora indica on characteristics of the growth, water status, photosynthetic pigments concentration, gas exchange, and chlorophyll fluorescence of tomato plants under salt stress (0, 50, 100 and 150 mM) was studied in the greenhouse. Under salt stress, mycorrhizal tomato plants had higher dry weight of shoot and root, higher height, higher carotenoid an...
متن کاملA stage-based study of drought response in Cryptantha flava (Boraginaceae): gas exchange, water use efficiency, and whole plant performance.
Models of global climate change predict an increase in the frequency of major droughts, yet we know little about the consequences of drought for the demography of natural populations. This study examined a population of the semi-desert perennial Cryptantha flava (Boraginaceae) to determine how plants of different developmental stages respond to drought through changes in leaf gas exchange, leaf...
متن کاملCO2 and Water Vapor Exchange across Leaf Cuticle (Epidermis) at Various Water Potentials.
Cuticular properties affect the gas exchange of leaves, but little is known about how much CO2 and water vapor cross the cuticular barrier or whether low water potentials affect the process. Therefore, we measured the cuticular conductances for CO2 and water vapor in grape (Vitis vinifera L.) leaves having various water potentials. The lower leaf surface was sealed to force all gas exchange thr...
متن کاملThe Effects of N Nutrition on the Water Relations and Gas Exchange Characteristics of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.).
The purpose of this study was to characterize leaf photosynthetic and stomatal responses of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants grown under two N-nutritional regimes. High- and low-N regimes were imposed on growth-chamber-grown plants by fertilizing with nutrient solutions containing 12 or 1 millimolar nitrogen, respectively. Gas-exchange measurements indicated not only greater photosynthetic c...
