چکیده
An orbiting ray pattern produces an unexpected gray disk. Here we demonstrate this visual effect and its possible insights into visual temporal integration.

Fechner’s Colors and Behnam’s Top
Fechner colors refer to the creation of illusory or subjective colors through an alternating pattern of black and white stimulus. Fechner reported the discovery of this illusion in an 1838 paper, and his name has been given to these illusory colors. The discovery was accidental as Fechner at the time was involved in the creation of disks to create different shades of gray [1]. From the beginnin...
متن کاملScintillating lustre induced by radial fins
Radial lines of Ehrenstein patterns induce illusory scintillating lustre in gray disks inserted into the central gaps (scintillating-lustre effect). We report a novel variant of this illusion by replacing the radial lines with white and black radial fins. Both white and gray disks inserted into the central gaps were perceived as scintillating, if the ratio of the black/white fin width were bala...
متن کاملBinary Black Holes in Stationary Orbits
We show that under certain astrophysical conditions a binary system consisting of two compact objects can be stabilized against indefinite shrinking of orbits due to the emission of gravitational radiation. In this case, the lighter binary companion settles down to a stable orbit when the loss of the angular momentum due to gravitational radiation becomes equal to its gain from the accreting ma...
متن کاملNeural basis for a powerful static motion illusion.
Most people see movement in Figure 1, although the image is static. Motion is seen from black --> blue --> white --> yellow --> black. Many hypotheses for the illusory motion have been proposed, although none have been tested physiologically. We found that the illusion works well even if it is achromatic: yellow is replaced with light gray, and blue is replaced with dark gray. We show that the ...
متن کاملPerception of Fechner Illusory Colors in Alzheimer Disease Patients
BACKGROUND Alzheimer disease (AD) primarily affects cognition. A variety of visual disorders was established in AD. Fechner illusory colors are produced by a rotating disk with a black and white pattern. The purpose of our research was to explore the perception of illusory colors in AD. MATERIAL AND METHODS W recruited 40 AD patients (MMSE ≥14) and 40 normal controls (CG group) matched by age, ...
