KBS Methodology as a framework for Co-operative Working
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes the development of the Injection Moulding Process Expert System (IMPRESS). The IMPRESS system diagnoses faults in injection moulding machinery which lead to dirt or other contamination appearing in the plastic mouldings which are produced. This KBS has recently been put into use at Plastic Engineers (Scotland) Ltd, and is proving useful both as an expert assistant when technical help is otherwise unavailable, and as a training aid. The IMPRESS system was built by a member of Plastic Engineers' sta with assistance from a KBS consultant. It was decided that the project would be based around a KBS methodology; a `pragmatic' version of the KADS methodology was chosen. The methodology was used not only to formalise and guide the development of the KBS itself, but also to act as a framework for dividing the work between the two members of the project team. By gaining an understanding of the methodology, the sta member from Plastic Engineers was able to understand the knowledge analysis and KBS design documents produced by the consultant, and to use these documents to implement part of the KBS, both during the development of the system and when system maintenance was required. The use of a methodology for this project on this project had both bene ts and weaknesses, which are discussed at the end of the paper.

Analysis and design of co-operative work processes: a framework
The main focus of this paper is demonstrating a methodology for capturing and designing co-operative work processes. We present a method, appropriate for group work analysis, and particularly well suited for the analysis and design of workflow applications. With this end in view, we have chosen the OSSAD method as a foundation for a specific method for co-operative applications analysis and des...
متن کاملA Simulation Framework for Knowledge Acquisition Evaluation
Knowledge acquisition (KA) plays an important role in building knowledge based systems (KBS). However, evaluating different KA techniques has been difficult because of the costs of using human expertise in experimental studies. In this paper, we first address the problem of evaluating knowledge acquisition methods. Then, we develop an analysis of the types of errors a human expert makes in buil...
متن کاملPermeability and selectivity prediction of poly (4-methyl 1-pentane) membrane modified by nanoparticles in gas separation through artificial intelligent systems
In this work, the effects of operative parameters on CH4, CO2, O2, and N2 membrane gas separation for poly (4-methyl-1-pentane) (PMP) membrane modified by adding nanoparticles of TiO2, ZnO, and Al2O3 are assessed and investigated. The operative parameters were type and percentage of nanoparticles, and cross membrane pr...
متن کاملAnalysing System/User Cooperation in KADS
With the introduction of active, knowledge based systems (KBS), the need for truely cooperative systems grows. In this article we present a framework is presented for the analysis and specification of the way the user and a KBS should cooperate. This framework for user/system cooperation (KADS–FUSC) is part of the KADS methodology. KADS–FUSC is an extension of [Moran, 1981]’s view on successive...
متن کاملCarmentiS: A Co-Operative Approach Towards Situation Awareness and Early Warning for the Internet
Although plenty of organizations collect sensor data such as IDS alerts or darknet flows, local analysis has its definite limits when it comes to derive conclusions about happenings and trends within the Internet as a whole. CarmentiS, a joint effort of the early warning working group within the German CERT association, provides an infrastructure and organizational framework for sharing, correl...
