Simulating Transaction Processing in Parallel Database Systems

چکیده
In this paper we discuss the design of a parallel database machine and the desirability of using simulation experiments of the machine at an early stage of the design process as a way of assessing the performance of the finished machine. We discuss the reasoning behind the choice of a distributed discreteevent simulation model, and design and implementation issues in this approach. Lastly we discuss how the simulation may be used to rapidly develop experiments which examine the behaviour of the database machine.

Analysis of Dynamic Load Balancing Strategies for Parallel Shared Nothing Database Systems
Parallel database systems have to support both inter-transaction as well as intra-transaction parallelism. Inter-transaction parallelism (multi-user mode) is required to achieve high throughput, in particular for OLTP transactions, and sufficient cost-effectiveness. Intra-transaction parallelism is a prerequisite for reducing the response time of complex and data-intensive transactions (queries...
متن کاملModeling of Hierarchical Multiprocessor Database Systems*
The paper is devoted to the issues concerning with modeling and simulating of hierarchical database multiprocessor systems. The requirements for a model of parallel database systems are defined. A new computational model of the hierarchical database multiprocessor architecture is described. This model is called DMM (Database Multiprocessor Model) and designed for OLTP workload. It allows us to ...
متن کاملA hybrid approach for database intrusion detection at transaction and inter-transaction levels
Nowadays, information plays an important role in organizations. Sensitive information is often stored in databases. Traditional mechanisms such as encryption, access control, and authentication cannot provide a high level of confidence. Therefore, the existence of Intrusion Detection Systems in databases is necessary. In this paper, we propose an intrusion detection system for detecting attacks...

متن کاملPerformance of Future Database Systems: Bottlenecks and Bonananzas
Current trends in database systems include the incorporation of parallel processing; objectrelational capabilities; support for data warehousing, data mining, and OLAP. The typical hardware systems on which such database systems are being implemented include SMP’s, MPP’s, clusters, 64bit processors, disk caches, and RAID and other high availability configurations. In addition, as database techn...
