Biologically Motivated Object Recognition

چکیده
Here we modify the HMAX object recognition system of Serre et al. with an end-stopped filter to try and improve the accuracy of the model and to further the parallels in the algorithm to the actual processing of the visual cortex for learning object representations.

A Biologically Motivated System for Unconstrained Online Learning of Visual Objects
We present a biologically motivated system for object recognition that is capable of online learning of several objects based on interaction with a human teacher. The training is unconstrained in the sense that arbitrary objects can be freely presented in front of a stereo camera system and labeled by speech input. The architecture unites biological principles such as appearance-based represent...
متن کاملBiologically Motivated Novel Localization Paradigm by High-Level Multiple Object Recognition in Panoramic Images
This paper presents the novel paradigm of a global localization method motivated by human visual systems (HVSs). HVSs actively use the information of the object recognition results for self-position localization and for viewing direction. The proposed localization paradigm consisted of three parts: panoramic image acquisition, multiple object recognition, and grid-based localization. Multiple o...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Object Recognition Using an Unsupervised BCM Network: The Usefulness of Distinguishing Features
We propose an object recognition scheme based on a method for feature extraction from gray level images that corresponds to recent statistical theory, called projection pursuit, and is derived from a biologically motivated feature extracting neuron. To evaluate the performance of this method we use a set of very detailed psychophysical 3D object recognition experiments (B ulthoo and Edelman, 19...
متن کاملBiologically Motivated Perceptual Feature: Generalized Robust Invariant Feature
In this paper, we present a new, biologically inspired perceptual feature to solve the selectivity and invariance issue in object recognition. Based on the recent findings in neuronal and cognitive mechanisms in human visual systems, we develop a computationally efficient model. An effective form of a visual part detector combines a radial symmetry detector with a corner-like structure detector...
متن کاملRecognizing Rotated and Occluded Shapes Using Cortronic Neural Networks and Biologically Motivated Feature Extractors
A new object recognition system that uses biologically motivated feature extractors and the cortronic neural network is presented. Images are processed by edge detectors, orientation selective units and end-stop cells, in analogy to the on-center/off-center, simple, complex and hypercomplex cells of the mammalian retina and visual cortex. The resulting image is a sparse pattern suitable for inp...
