Dynamics of a bistable Mott insulator to superfluid phase transition in cavity optomechanics

چکیده
We study the dynamics of the many-body state of ultracold bosons trapped in a bistable optical lattice in an optomechanical resonator controlled by a time-dependent input field. We focus on the dynamics of the many-body system following discontinuous jumps of the intracavity field. We identify experimentally realizable parameters for the bistable quantum phase transition between Mott insulator and superfluid.

Photon blockade induced Mott transitions and XY spin models in coupled cavity arrays
The non-interacting nature of light makes the observation of photonic quantum phase transitions an impossible task. We demonstrate how a photonic insulator type of phase(Mott phase) can arise in an array of coupled high Q electromagnetic cavities and show how to drive the system to a superfluid state. Each cavity site is coupled resonantly to a single two level system (atom/quantum dot/Cooper p...
متن کاملQuantum phase transition from a Mott insulator to a superfluid in bosons
Bose Hubbard model is presented and basic natures of Mott insulating phase and superfluid phase are studied in this essay. Also how and when this quantum phase transition occurs is discussed. Experimental supports from ultracold atoms physics are explained, while some miscellaneous topics are touched in the end.

We study the superfluid to Mott-insulator transition of bosons in an optical anizotropic lattice by employing the Bose-Hubbard model living on a two-dimensional lattice with anizotropy parameter κ. The compressible superfluid state and incompressible Mott-insulator (MI) lobes are efficiently described analytically, using the quantum U(1) rotor approach. The ground state phase diagram showing th...
متن کاملAbsence of a direct superfluid to mott insulator transition in disordered bose systems.
We prove the absence of a direct quantum phase transition between a superfluid and a Mott insulator in a bosonic system with generic, bounded disorder. We also prove the compressibility of the system on the superfluid-insulator critical line and in its neighborhood. These conclusions follow from a general theorem of inclusions, which states that for any transition in a disordered system, one ca...

We extend the idea of quantum phase transitions of light in the photonic Bose-Hubbard model with interactions to two atomic species by a self-consistent mean field theory. The excitation of two-level atoms interacting with a coherent photon field is analyzed with a finite temperature dependence of the order parameters. Four ground states of the system are found, including an isolated Mott-insul...
