Growth, mortality, and biomass partitioning in freshwater t idal wetlmd populations of wild rice (Zizania aquatica Tar. aquatica). Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 104: 347-351. 1977.-Wild rice is a common annual in Delaware River tidal ~retlands. Net production was as high as 20.9 g m" day-I and varied seasonally. The lowest production rates occurred during the seedli~ig phenophase and the highest followed seedling establishment. On a percentage basis, more biomass was allocated into root production during the seedling phenophase. Population mortality was coi~stant between May and early August.

ABSTRACT Title of Thesis: EFFECTS OF SEA LEVEL RISE ON TIDAL MARSHES
Title of Thesis: EFFECTS OF SEA LEVEL RISE ON TIDAL MARSHES Jennifer Holly Bryan, Master of Science, 2014 Thesis directed by: Assistant Professor Lora Harris University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science There is growing concern regarding the potentially negative impacts of sea level rise (SLR) on tidal wetlands in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. In Chapter one, I invest...
متن کاملResponses of Caged Red-winged Blackbirds to Methiocarb on Wild Rice
Red-winged blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) were offered a choice between cultivated wild rice (Zizania aquatica) treated with methiocarb and untreated wild rice. Unhulled wild rice soaked in methiocarb solution was highly effective in repelling blackbirds at residue levels <132 ppm. The responses of blackbirds to methiocarb residues <132 ppm on soaked rice were variable. Most of the blackbirds...
متن کاملInexpensive Ipomoea aquatica Biomass-Modified Carbon Black as an Active Pt-Free Electrocatalyst for Oxygen Reduction Reaction in an Alkaline Medium
The development of inexpensive and active Pt-free catalysts as an alternative to Pt-based catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is an essential prerequisite for fuel cell commercialization. In this paper, we report a strategy for the design of a new Fe-N/C electrocatalyst derived from the co-pyrolysis of Ipomoea aquatica biomass, carbon black (Vulcan XC-72R) and FeCl₃·6H₂O at 900 °C und...
متن کاملEvaluation of Curvularia lunata as an Biological Control Agent in Major Weeds of Rice Paddies
Common water-plantain (Alisma plantago-aquatica L.), arrowhead (Sagitaria trifolia L.) and Echinochloa spp. (L.) are among the most important damaging weeds of rice paddies. In this research, Curvularia lunata (Waker) Boedijn was isolated from the said weeds. Then, its effect in different growth stages, i.e. seed, 2-3 leaf stage (seedling) and also in greenhouse conditions was examined in Alism...
متن کاملThe Influence of the Ratio of Nitrate to Ammonium Nitrogen on Nitrogen Removal in the Economical Growth of Vegetation in Hybrid Constructed Wetlands
Growing vegetables economically in the use of constructed wetland for wastewater treatment can play a role in overcoming water and food scarcity. Allium porrum L., Solanum melongena L., Ipomoea aquatica Forsk., and Capsicum annuum L. plants were selected to grow in hybrid constructed wetland (CW) under natural conditions. The impact of the ratio of nitrate to ammonium nitrogen on ammonium and n...
