چکیده

Stimulation studies in the cat have shown that the afferent fibers for the oculorespiratory reflex travel with the motor nerves intraorbitalhj, but join the ophthalmic division of the fifth cranial nerve within the cavernous sinus. Degeneration studies confirm that these afferents join the fifth nerve in the cavernous sinus. From the size, number, and distribution of these nerves, it is concluded that this represents a major afferent pathivay from the extraocular muscles to the brainstem.

Midbrain evoked potential produced by stimulation of the muscle branch of the oculomotor nerve.

Evoked potential was recorded by needle electrode from the oculomotor nucleus in decerebrate cats, following electrical stimulation of the inferior oblique nerve. The evoked potential was usually triphasic, but complex potential with the second and third negative leaves, or with long latency negative waves, was incidentally recorded depending upon the position of the recording electrode. In the...

Primary afferent depolarization: direct evidence in the trigeminal system.

Sensory inputs carried by the peripheral nerve fibers can be regulated at the central terminals of the fibers. Both intracellulad, la,17 and extracellutar 12,15,21,25 recordings at the levels of the spinal cord and dorsal column nuclei have provided evidence for modification of afferent impulses. However, in the trigeminal system only extracellular recordings, which provide indirect evidence of...

Histomorphogenesis of cranial nerves in Huso huso larvae

In this study the cranial nerves development of H. huso are explained from 1 to 54-days-old (1, 3, 6, 15, 21 and 54 days). Despite all the researches on fish brain, there are no study on nerves evolution on H. huso during their larvae life. For this research 40 samples of larvae H. husowere obtained (from each age, about six samples were selected). The specimens were ...

Afferent Neurons: Topographical and Functional Considerations

This article reviews literature relating to the central projection of primary afferent neurons of the trigeminal nerve. After a brief description of the major nuclei associated with the trigeminal nerve, the presentation reviews several early issues related to theories of trigeminal organization including modality and somatotopic representation. Recent studies directed toward further definition...

Studies on the Nerve Pathways Involved in the Laryngeal Reflex (laryngospasm) En the Cat

The receptor sites and nerve pathways involved in the reflex production of laryngospasm have been investigated in the cat. The trigeminal nerves and the internal branch of the superior laryngeal nerves were shown to provide an afferent pathway for the reflex when the nasopharynx and larynx were exposed to ether vapour. Evidence was obtained suggesting that the recurrent laryngeal nerves may for...
