چکیده

Traditional factor models explicitly or implicitly assume that the factors follow a multivariate normal distribution; that is, only moments up to order two are involved. However, it may happen in real data problems that the first two moments cannot explain the factors. Based on this motivation, here we devise three new skewed factor models, the skew-normal, the skew-t , and the generalized skew-normal factor models depending on a selection mechanism on the factors. The ECME algorithms are adopted to estimate related parameters for statistical inference. Monte Carlo simulations validate our newmodels and we demonstrate the need for skewed factor models using the classic open/closed book exam scores dataset. © 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

The size distribution of conspecific populations: the peoples of New Guinea.

The size distribution of the language populations in New Guinea, which represent over 15% of the world's languages, is analysed using models analogous to the resource division models of species abundance distribution in ecological communities. A model distribution of resource segments reflecting population size is created by repeated selection of an existing resource segment and its division in...

Bayesian Inference in the Sample Selection and Two-Part Models

This paper considers two models to deal with an outcome variable that contains a large fraction of zeros: the sample-selection model and the two-part model. Whereas the sample selection model allows correlation between the selection and outcome mechanisms, the two-part model assumes conditional independence. Using a fully parametric Bayesian approach, we present Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) ...

Influence of Magnetic Saturation on Induction Motor Model Selection

Effects of magnetic saturation on various equivalent circuit models of an induction motor are studied. The parameters of 2.2-kW and 37-kW motors with closed rotor slots are analyzed using finite element computations. Both skewed and unskewed rotor slots are studied. The magnetizing inductance not only depends on the main flux, but is also dependent on the rotor current, especially if the rotor ...

Two models of inventory control with supplier selection in case of multiple sourcing: a case of Isfahan Steel Company

Selecting the best suppliers is crucial for a company’s success. Since competition is a determining factor nowadays, reducing cost and increasing quality of products are two key criteria for appropriate supplier selection. In the study, first the inventories of agglomeration plant of Isfahan Steel Company were categorized through VED and ABC methods. Then the models to supply two important kind...

GENETIC ALGORITHM BASED EQUIPMENT SELECTION METHOD FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT USING MATLAB TOOL

Equipment selection is a key factor in modern construction industry. As it is a complex factor, current models offered by literatures fail to provide adequate solutions for major issues like systematic evaluation of soft factors and weighting of soft benefits in comparison with costs. This paper aims at making a comparative study between GA and AHP by utilising MATLAB as a tool. It is a conveni...
