NOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE Parameterization of the Optical Properties for Water Clouds in the Infrared
نویسندگان
چکیده
A parameterization is presented for the optical properties of water clouds in the infrared spectrum. The cloud optical properties are parameterized in terms of the cloud’s liquid water content and the effective radius defined from the droplet size distribution. Rational functions are used for the parameterization. The coefficients for the rational functions are derived by doing least square fitting to points calculated by exact Mie theory. The optical properties are presented for 36 individual wavelengths. Also, parameterizations in 12 spectral bands between 4 and 1000 mm are shown. The parameterization is valid for effective radius between 2 and 40 mm. The accuracy of the parameterization is mostly within 5% compared to the exact Mie calculations.

Some notes on the characterization of two dimensional skew cyclic codes
A natural generalization of two dimensional cyclic code ($T{TDC}$) is two dimensional skew cyclic code. It is well-known that there is a correspondence between two dimensional skew cyclic codes and left ideals of the quotient ring $R_n:=F[x,y;rho,theta]/_l$. In this paper we characterize the left ideals of the ring $R_n$ with two methods and find the generator matrix for two dimensional s...

متن کاملNOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE High Aitken Nucleus Concentrations above Cloud Tops in the Arctic
Airborne measurements in the Arctic in spring show large increases in the concentrations of particles with diameters below about 0.1 mm just above the tops of stratus clouds when the water-vapor mixing ratio is relatively high in these regions. Low temperatures and low particle surface areas may also favor the appearance of these particles. Particles produced above stratus clouds could be a wid...
متن کاملNOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE Impact of the Reduced Drag Coefficient on Ocean Wave Modeling under Hurricane Conditions
Effects of new drag coefficient (Cd) parameterizations on WAVEWATCH III (WW3) model surface wave simulations are investigated. The new parameterizations are based on a coupled wind–wave model (CWW) and a wave tank experiment, and yields reduced Cd at high wind speeds. Numerical experiments for uniform winds and Hurricane Katrina (2005) indicate that the original Cd parameterization used in WW3 ...
