چکیده

The note presents preliminary information on the power spectral data obtained during Project TOPCAT in Australia. Measurements of moderately severe clear air turbulence were obtained from a Canberra aircraft flying at altitudes of 26000 to 33000 ft in the vicinity of the subtropical jet stream. In some respects, particularly at long wavelengths, the spectra are dissimilar to those found for low level turbulence and there are indications that the turbulence is anisotropic. At short wavelengths the power spectra agree nell with a-5/31-d power law, and the energy densities of the three components $9 vg3 wg) are similar.

Study of Clear Air Turbulence over Iranian Plato

This study was carried out using two sets of numerical weather forecast data and flight reports for Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) over Iranian Plato to find atmospheric flow patterns favorable to the formation of CAT. The numerical data include five months of AVN analysis with horizontal resolution of 1 degree(about 100 km) and four months forecast data of MM5 model with resolution of 50 km. Impor...

Clear-air turbulence in a changing climate

Atmospheric turbulence causes most weather-related aircraft incidents. Commercial aircraft encounter moderate-or-greater turbulence tens of thousands of times each year worldwide, injuring probably hundreds of passengers (occasionally fatally), costing airlines tens of millions of dollars and causing structural damage to planes. Clear-air turbulence is especially difficult to avoid, because it ...

Clear Air Turbulence Detection and Characterisation in the Delicat Airborne Lidar Project

We report on a development of a long-range airborne UV high spectral resolution lidar, intended for the detection and characterisation of clear air turbulence (CAT). The detection of turbulence is based on the measurement of density fluctuations associated with the movement of turbulent air masses. These density fluctuations are measured by the variations in the molecular backscatter coefficien...

Analyzing and Forecasting Clear - Air Turbulence Probabilities over the United States

Pilot reports from special turbulence-reporting periods were used t o investigate methods of analyzing and forecasting clear-air turbulence over the United States. Meteorological analyses for the special reporting periods were made objectively by computer using only standard upper air rawinsonde measurements. The wind analyses were built upward from the 400-mb level to the 200-mb level using th...

Improving Cyclone Efficiency by Recycle and Jet Impingement Streams

In this paper a new process is presented for improving efficiency of cyclone de-dusting systems. The cyclone is coupled with a specially designed cylindrical chamber which includes a rotating tube inside it with air impinging nuzzles, drilled on the peripheral surface of the tube. The nuzzles help in pushing and throwing the particles to the outer radius distances during downward flow of du...
