MALLIANI, ALBERTO, PETER J. SCHWARTZ, and ALBERTO ZANCHETTI. A sympathetic rejex elicited by experimental coronary occlusion. Am. J. Physiol. 217(3): 703-709. 1969.-The effects of transient coronary occlusion on a sympathetic outflow presumably directed to the heart have been studied on cats. Single preganglionic fibers and a few multifiber strands have been isolated from the left third thoracic ramus communicans (Ts). Coronary occlusion quickly induced an increased discharge of most of the fibers tested. A very few fibers decreased their discharge, whereas some were apparently unaffected by coronary occlusion. Increased firing neither depended on direct anoxic stimulation of preganglionic neurons nor on sinoaortic or vagal reflexes and was observed in spinal preparations. A sympathetic cardio-cardiac reflex is proposed, the afferent and efferent pathways of which are both in sympathetic nerves.

Activation of cardiac sympathetic afferents during coronary occlusion. Evidence for reflex activation of sympathetic nervous system during transmural myocardial ischemia in the dog.
BACKGROUND Left ventricular sympathetic afferent nerves are located mainly in superficial epicardial layers. Reflex excitatory responses mediated by sympathetic afferent nerves have been observed during myocardial ischemia in cats and humans but not in dogs. Previous canine studies have induced ischemia by occlusion of a coronary artery. Extensive collateral circulation in the canine heart may ...

1. Local regulation of subcutaneous blood flow in the forearm was studied in the acute phase of myocardial infarction. Blood flow was measured by the local 133Xe-washout technique. 2. Plasma concentrations of noradrenaline and adrenaline were increased on day 1, suggesting an increase in sympathetic neuronal activity, but gradually returned to normal thereafter. 3. Subcutaneous blood flow on da...
متن کاملThe cardiocardiac sympathetic reflex during coronary occlusion in anesthetized dogs.
Cardiac sympathetic afferent fibers activated during coronary occlusion exert an excitatory influence on sympathetic discharge to the heart in cats after spinal cord section. The significance of this cardiocardiac sympathetic reflex response during myocardial ischemia in animals with an intact neuraxis is unknown. We studied the responses of efferent cardiac sympathetic nerve activity (CSNA), a...
