چکیده

Materials and methods In this diagnostic test study, the type 2 diabetic patients were submitted to clinical and laboratory evaluation. Endothelial function was evaluated with Doppler ultrasound of the brachial artery, measuring the basal diameter and the FMD after ischemia in the forearm. ROC curves were constructed and two scores were used as reference standards to assess the risk of having a cardiovascular event over 10 yrs.: UKPDS risk engine (<10%=low risk and ≥ 10%=high risk) and ASCVD (<7.5%=low risk and ≥ 7.5% =high risk). The cutoff points of basal diameter and FMD were determined based on the equilibrium between sensitivity (S) and specificity (E).

Nitroglycerin-mediated vasodilatation of the brachial artery may predict long-term cardiovascular events irrespective of the presence of atherosclerotic disease.

AIM Nitroglycerin-mediated vasodilatation (NMD) provides insight into the NTG-induced bioactivity of smooth muscle. It is plausible that in dysfunctional smooth muscle cells, the response to nitroglycerin may become blunted. The relationship between impaired brachial artery NMD and subsequent cardiovascular events is not well established. METHODS We examined brachial artery flow-mediated dila...

Endothelium-dependent brachial artery flow-mediated vasodilatation in patients with diabetes mellitus with and without coronary artery disease.

AIM OF THE STUDY Endothelial function as assessed by brachial artery flow mediated vasodilatation (FMD) has been shown to be impaired in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Since diabetes mellitus (DM) has been considered to be CAD risk-equivalent, we sought to determine whether endothelial dysfunction is present in patients with DM independent of presence of CAD. METHODOLOGY One hun...

Familial hyperhomocysteinaemia and endothelium-dependent vasodilatation and arterial distensibility of large arteries.

OBJECTIVES Mild hyperhomocysteinaemia, fasting as well as after a methionine load, occurs in families and is associated with premature atherosclerosis. We hypothesised that endothelial dysfunction plays a role in the relation between hyperhomocysteinaemia and clinical vascular disease. METHODS In this study flow-mediated, endothelium-dependent vasodilatation of the brachial artery and, as a m...

The effect of reactive artery hyperaemia on the radial strain of the brachial artery: Definition of optimum cuff position

Instruction: Measurement of brachial artery diameter variation by ultrasound methods has commonly been used to test the endothelial function. It is known that the artery diameter is increased by flow stimulation. Therefore in the present study, the effect of external obstruction, as flow stimulation, on the radial strain of the brachial artery was assessed. Also the biomechanical behavior of...

Correlation of Flicker-Induced and Flow-Mediated Vasodilatation in Patients With Endothelial Dysfunction and Healthy Volunteers

OBJECTIVE Flicker-induced vasodilatation is reduced in patients with vascular-related diseases, which has at least partially been attributed to endothelial dysfunction of retinal vessels. Currently, the standard method to assess endothelial function in vivo is flow-mediated vasodilatation (FMD). Thus, the present study was performed to investigate whether a correlation exists between flicker-in...
