Slow antiferromagnetic dynamics in the low temperature tetragonal phase of La 2−x Sr x CuO 4 as revealed by ESR of Gd spin probes Abstract Measuring the ESR of Gd spin probes we have studied the magnetic properties of the copper oxide planes in the low temperature tetragonal (LTT) phase of Eu doped La 2−x Sr x CuO 4. The data give evidence that at particular levels of Sr and Eu doping the frequency of the antiferromagnetic fluctuations ω sf in the LTT phase dramatically decreases at low temperatures by almost three orders of magnitude. However, no static magnetic order has been found for T ≥ 8 K in contrast to the observation by neutron scattering of stripe ordering of spins below 50 K in a Nd doped La 2−x Sr x CuO 4 single crystal. To our opinion static order in the Nd doped compound is induced due to the interaction between the Cu spins with the rare earth magnetic moments. Therefore, a really characteristic property of the magnetism in the LTT struc

Correlations versus Superfluid Density in La 2 − x Sr x CuO
We have performed muon spin relaxation and low field ac-susceptibility measurements in a series of high quality samples of La 2−x Sr x CuO 4 (x = 0.08 − 0.24) as a function of temperature. Superconductivity is found to co-exist with low temperature spin glass order up to the optimally doped region where the normal state pseudogap also closes. The systematic depletion of the superfluid density w...
متن کاملMagnetic and Charge Correlations in La2−x−yNdySrxCuO4 : Raman Scattering Study
La 2−x Sr x CuO 4 is one of the most studied Cu-O based layered perovskites [1]. It exhibits some of the most important aspects related to the physics of strongly correlated electrons and, more important, is one of the compounds which belong to the family of high temperature superconducting cuprates. In fact the high T c superconductivity (SC) rush which began in 1986 started with a variant of ...
متن کاملSuperconductivity: Viiic Dynamic Jahn-teller Effects Vs Spin-orbit Coupling in the Lto Phase of La 2−x Sr X Cuo 4
The possible role of the van Hove singularity (vHs) in stabilizing the low-temperature orthorhombic (LTO) phase transition in La 2−x Sr x CuO 4 (LSCO) is discussed. It is found that the vHs can drive a structural distortion in two different ways, either due to spin-orbit coupling or to dynamic Jahn-Teller (JT) effects. This paper discusses the latter effect in some detail. It is shown that a mo...
متن کامل2 1 N ov 1 99 6 Sr impurity effects on the magnetic correlations of La 2 − x Sr x CuO 4
We examine the low–temperature magnetic properties of moderately doped La2−xSrxCuO4, paying particular attention to the spin–glass phase and the commensurate–incommensurate transition as they are affected by Sr impurity disorder. A model of the carriers, believed to be appropriate at low temperatures, is employed in the CuO2 planes that accounts for both the strong coupling of the hole’s motion...
متن کاملMean-field pairing theory for the charge-stripe phase of high-temperature cuprate superconductors.
Striped high-T(c) superconductors such as La(2-y-x)Nd(y)Sr(x)CuO(4) and La(2-x)Ba(x)CuO(4) near x = 1/8 show a fascinating competition between spin and charge order and superconductivity. A theory for these systems therefore has to capture both the spin correlations of an antiferromagnet and the pair correlations of a superconductor. For this purpose we present here an effective Hartree-Fock th...
