چکیده

The upper chromosphere and lower transition region of dMe stars. Abstract. Models for the upper chromosphere and the lower transition region of dM0e-dM2e stars are presented. The modelling procedure is based on a modiication of the semi-empirical approach useful for evaluating the eeects of prescribed transport processes to the energy balance. The statistical equilibrium equations include terms due to hydrogen ambipolar diiusion in order to investigate its importance in the ionisation and energy balance. Several spectroscopic diagnostics have been used such as the hydrogen H and Ly lines, Si II resonance multiplets near 1814 A and 1264 A and the MgII h & k lines. The analysis of the H proole in the dM1e star V1005Ori (=Gl182) indicates that the temperature gradient in the lower transition region is smaller than solar. Since the gas pressure is higher than solar, these conditions imply the validity of a weakly non-uniform approximation (e. g., the Spitzer-HH arm relation for the thermal conductivity is valid in this case). Ambipolar diiusion is found ineeective for the ionisation balance and therefore for the energy transport in the lower transition region of dMe stars. This implies that, unlike the solar case, a signiicant local dissipation of mechanical heating must be present to sustain the observed radiative emission from the lower transition region.

Angular Momentum of Cores and Envelopes, and Magnetic Braking

We study the eeect of magnetic braking on the ambipolar-diiusion initiated formation and contraction of protostellar cores in axisymmetric, disklike, model molecular clouds. Magnetic braking rapidly enforces near corotation of the cloud with the background medium during the initial, ambipolar-diiusion controlled, quasistatic contraction. After a magnetically (and thermally) supercritical core f...

Numerical Study of Energy Diiusion in King Models

The energy diiusion coeecients D n (E) hE(E) n =ti (n = 1; 2) for a system of equal mass particles moving self-consistently in an N-body realisation of a King model are computed from the probability per unit time, P (E; E)dEdE, that a star with initial energy E will undergo an energy change E. In turn, P is computed from the number of times during the simulation that a particle in a `state' of ...

Diiusion Driven by Collisions with the Boundary

We present a mathematically rigorous derivation of a diiusion model previously introduced by the rst author to model the diiusion of charged-particles moving in the gap between two plane parallel plates. The particles are subject to crossed electric and magnetic elds and to collisions against the surface of the solid plates. The surface collisions are supposed to be elastic. Under appropriate s...

ATOMIC T TAURI DISK WINDS HEATED BY AMBIPOLAR DIFFUSIONPaulo

RESUMEN El resumen serr a traducido al espa~ nol por los editores. We summarize results on the thermal and ionization structure of self-similar, magnetically-driven, atomic disk winds heated by ambipolar diiusion. We improve upon earlier work by Saaer by considering (1) new MHD solutions consistent with underlying cold keplerian disk equilibrium, (2) a more accurate treatment of the micro-physi...

On a Quasilinear Coagulation-fragmentation Model with Diiusion

We consider a system of a very large number of particles of very diierent sizes, suspended in a carrier uid. These particles move due to diiusion and superimposed transport processes, merge to form larger clusters, or fragment into smaller ones. In the present paper a mathematical model for such processes is derived, consisting of an innnite quasilinear reaction-diiusion system, coupled to the ...
