چکیده

This article reports results from numerical simulations of the gravitational radiation emitted from nonrotating relativistic stars as a result of the axisymmetric accretion of layers of perfect fluid matter, shaped in the form of quadrupolar shells. We adopt a hybrid procedure where we evolve numerically the polar nonspherical perturbations equations of the star coupled to a fully nonlinear hydrodynamics code that calculates the motion of the accreting matter. Selfgravity of the accreting fluid as well as radiation reaction effects are neglected.

Prompt Mergers of Neutron Stars with Black Holes

Mergers of neutron stars with black holes have been suggested as candidates for short gamma-ray bursts. They have also been studied for their potential as gravitational wave sources observable with ground-based detectors. For these purposes, it is important to know under what circumstances such a merger could leave an accretion disk or result in a period of stable mass transfer. We show that, c...

Comptonization in Super-eddington Accretion Flow and Growth Timescale of Supermassive Black Holes

Super-Eddington accretion onto black holes (BHs) may occur at Ultra-Luminous compact X-ray sources in nearby galaxies, Galactic microquasars and narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s). Effects of electron scattering (opacity and Comptonization) and the relativistic correction (gravitational redshift and transverse Doppler effect) on the emergent spectra from super-Eddington accretion flows onto...

General relativistic hydrodynamic flows around a static compact object in final stages of accretion flow

Dynamics of stationary axisymmetric configuration of the viscous accreting fluids surrounding a non-rotating compact object in final stages of accretion flow is presented here. For the special case of thin disk approximation, the relativistic fluid equations ignoring self-gravity of the disk are derived in Schwarzschild geometry. For two different state equations, two sets of self-consistent an...

The formation of massive star systems by accretion.

Massive stars produce so much light that the radiation pressure they exert on the gas and dust around them is stronger than their gravitational attraction, a condition that has long been expected to prevent them from growing by accretion. We present three-dimensional radiation-hydrodynamic simulations of the collapse of a massive prestellar core and find that radiation pressure does not halt ac...

High-Order Residual Distribution Schemes for Steady 1D Relativistic Hydrodynamics

An important goal in astrophysics is to model phenomena such as the gravitational collapse of stars and accretion onto black holes. Under the assumption that the spacetime metric remains fixed on the time scales of fluid motion, the relevant physics can be modeled by the equations of relativistic hydrodynamics. These equations form a system of hyperbolic balance laws that are strongly nonlinear...
