N ov 2 00 4 Study of the D 0 → K + K − π + π − decay

Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present a new measurement for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay modeD0 → K+K−π+π−. We measure: Γ(D0 → K+K−π+π−)/Γ(D0 → K−π−π+π+) = 0.0295 ± 0.0011 ± 0.0008 . An amplitude analysis has been performed in order to determine the resonant substructure of this decay mode. The dominant components are the decays D0 → K1(1270) +K−, D0 → K1(1400) +K− and D0 → ρ(770)0φ(1020).

A new result for the transverse μ polarization, PT , in the decay K + → πμν has been obtained in the KEK E246 experiment. Combined with our earlier result, PT = (−1.12 ± 2.17(stat) ± 0.90(syst)) × 10 −3 and Im(ξ) = (−0.28 ± 0.69(stat) ± 0.30(syst)) × 10, which are consistent with no T-violation.

We show how to find series expansions for π of the form π = ∞ n=0 S(n) mn pn a n , where S(n) is some polynomial in n (depending on m, p, a). We prove that there exist such expansions for m = 8k, p = 4k, a = (−4) k , for any k, and give explicit examples for such expansions for small values of m, p and a.
