Culture and immunochromatographic technique for diagnosis of trichomoniasis.

The recent report on culture and immunochromatographic (ICT) technique for diagnosis of trichomoniasis is interesting [1]. It concludes that “ICT is a simple, practical and reliable alternative to microscopy in laboratory diagnosis of trichomoniasis” [1]. A good diagnostic tool is important for management of trichomoniais [2]. However, the diagnostic property of the test is the important concern. Although ICT seems to be a good alternative, some previous reports had different results. The new ICT test can still not replace standard culture as false negatives can still occur [3]. Compared to the simple wet smear, the cost of ICT is higher and its cost effectiveness for resource limited settings should be further assessed. To the Editors:
