چکیده

Effect of level statistics on local electronic states and local magnetism in nanoscale metallic grains with transition-metal impurity in the ballistic regime is studied. It is shown that the mean occupation of local electron and the local magnetic moment in nanoscale metallic grains with odd conduction-electrons are larger than those with even conduction-electrons. The effect of even-odd parity on the condition for the occurrence of local magnetic moment is also discussed, it is found that the critical value, ρd(0)Uc, for the formation of local moment in nanoscale metallic grains is much smaller than that in bulks. The dependences of the local spin susceptibility on size and the Coulomb interaction are obtained. These results show that the level statistics plays an important role for the local magnetism, it distinguishes the properties of nanoscale metallic grains from those of clusters and bulks. Electric Field Tuning Non-volatile Magnetism in Half-Metallic Alloys Co2FeAl/Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 Heterostructure

We reported the non-volatile electric field-mediated magnetic properties in the half-metallic Heusler alloy Co2FeAl/Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 heterostructure at room temperature. The remanent magnetization with different applied electric field along [100] and [01-1] directions was achieved, which showed the non-volatile remanent magnetization driven by an electric field. The two giant reversible ...

Emergent properties and trends of a new class of carbon nanocomposites: graphene nanoribbons encapsulated in a carbon nanotube.

Using density functional theory calculations, we show that recently synthesized carbon nanocomposites of graphene nanoribbons encapsulated in a carbon nanotube (GNR@CNT) possess rich emergent electronic and magnetic properties that offer new functionality and tunability and display systematic trends that are sensitive to the matchup of constitutive GNRs and CNTs. The encapsulation of H-passivat...

Half metallicity in BC2)N nanoribbons: stability, electronic structures, and magnetism.

Nanoribbons are suggested to be among the most promising candidates being considered as building blocks in future electronics. In this study, we use density functional calculations to examine the structures and electronic properties of BC(2)N nanoribbons with bare zigzag-shaped edges (zz-BC(2)NNRs). Four different types of atomistic edge configurations are considered, including ribbons terminat...

Monte Carlo Modelling of Single-Crystal Diffuse Scattering from Intermetallics

Single-crystal diffuse scattering (SCDS) reveals detailed structural insights into materials. In particular, it is sensitive to two-body correlations, whereas traditional Bragg peak-based methods are sensitive to single-body correlations. This means that diffuse scattering is sensitive to ordering that persists for just a few unit cells: nanoscale order, sometimes referred to as “local structur...

Effect of Level Statistics on Superconductivity in Ultrasmall Metallic Grains.

We examine the destruction of superconducting pairing in metallic grains as their size is decreased for both even and odd numbers of electrons. This occurs when the average level spacing d is of the same order as the BCS order parameter ∆. The energy levels of these grains are randomly distributed according to random matrix theory, and we must work statistically. We find that the average value ...
