First-Aid Treatment of Hyperkalemia by Nebulised Salbutamol: An Experience in Pseudohypoaldosteronism

چکیده
Abstract In the present case with primary pseudohypoaldosteronism, severe hypekalemia was treated with salbutamol inhalation in acute phase. Transcellular hypokalemic effect of salbutamol is related to the activation of Na-K pump on the cell membrane. Although use of salbutamol inhalation in hyperkalemia was previously described, it has not been widely used. The administration of salbutamol by inhalation is a simple, safe and reasonably effective method for treatment of hyperkalemia even in children.

Nebulised ipratropium and salbutamol in asthma.
Treatment with nebulised salbutamol or a mixture of salbutamol and ipratropium was given to 138 children. Length of hospital stay and number of nebulised doses required did not differ. In severe asthma response was greater with salbutamol alone. In mild asthma response was greater with combined treatment.
متن کاملEffect of adding aminophylline infusion to nebulised salbutamol in severe acute asthma.
BACKGROUND The benefit of adding theophylline to beta 2 agonists in acute asthmatic attacks has been debated frequently. METHODS In an open randomised study 25 patients with severe acute asthma who presented to the emergency department were treated with either a combined nebulised salbutamol (5 mg/dose) and aminophylline infusion (0.6-0.9 mg/kg/hour), or nebulised salbutamol alone. RESULTS ...
متن کاملCyclosporine nephrotoxicity and early posttransplant hyperkalemia in living-donor renal recipients: report of 4 cases.
OBJECTIVES Hyperkalemia is an electrolyte disorder that may occur during the first few months after a renal transplant, in patients undergoing cyclosporine immunosuppression. We present our experience with cyclosporine-associated hyperkalemia in living-donor renal transplant recipients, with isolated clinically relevant hyperkalemia soon after surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS We report 4 living...
متن کاملTreatment of hyperkalaemia using intravenous and nebulised salbutamol.
In 11 children (aged 5-18 years) with end stage chronic renal failure, the effect on plasma potassium of two doses of salbutamol (separated by two hours) given intravenously (4 micrograms/kg) and on a separate date, of salbutamol administered by nebuliser (2.5 mg if the child weighed below 25 kg, 5 mg if above) was observed. Within 30 minutes of the first dose, the mean plasma potassium concent...
متن کاملComparison of the effects of nebulised and inhaled salbutamol on breathlessness in severe COPD.
BACKGROUND Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often report greater relief of breathlessness with nebulised bronchodilators than with the same medicine administered from a metered dose inhaler (MDI). This suggests that the nebulised medicines may have an effect on breathlessness over and above changes in lung function resulting from bronchodilatation. METHODS Twenty-fou...
