Scheduling meetings through multi-agent negotiations
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work presents a set of protocols for scheduling a meeting among agents that represent their respective user's interests. Four protocols are discussed: a) the full information protocol when all agents are comfortable with sharing their preference profile and free times; b) the approval protocol when only the preference profile can be shared; c) the voting protocol when only free time can be shared; and d) the suggestion protocol if neither preference nor free time can be shared. We use non-standard metric to evaluate the protocols which aims at maximizing the average preference, but also seeks to reduce the differences in preferences among the agents. The full information and approval protocols are optimal, that is, they achieve the best solution. Results show that the voting protocol achieves the best solution 88% of the time. Simulation results for the suggestion protocol with different numbers of agents, different numbers of solutions, and different strategies are presented. The suggestion protocol is shown to be coalition-free. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Meeting Scheduling with Multi Agent Systems: Design and Implementation
In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a distributed multi agent meeting scheduling system. The system includes two types of agents: personal agent, one for each user, to negotiate on behalf of its owner, and a location agent to arrange suitable meeting rooms for the meetings. Personal agents have their own calendar and preferences. Invitees are classified as either importan...
متن کاملMultiple Negotiations among Agents for a Distributed Meeting Scheduler
We present a method for multi-agent negotiation for implementing a distributed meeting scheduler. In the meeting scheduler, an agent negotiates with other agents about making an public schedule by referring user’s private schedules and preferences. We propose a new persuasion method for multi-agent negotiation for reflecting private preferences. We call the method the multiple negotiations. In ...
متن کاملTheory and Properties of a Selfish Protocol for Multi-Agent Meeting Scheduling Using Fuzzy Constraints1
This paper develops an agent-based methodology for meeting scheduling. In such a multi-agent system, each agent acts on behalf of a user. For each user the meeting scheduling problem is modeled by a fuzzy constraint satisfaction problem, and an appointment is made by negotiations among agents. A negotiation procedure concerns with two key components: the protocol for organizing negotiations amo...

متن کاملLearning Dynamic Time Preferences in Multi-Agent Meeting Scheduling
In many organizations, people are faced with the task of scheduling meetings subject to conflicting time constraints and preferences. We are working towards multi-agent scheduling systems in which each person has an agent that negotiates with other agents to schedule meetings. Such agents need to model the scheduling preferences of their users in order to make effective scheduling decisions. We...
