Nano-Intrinsic True Random Number Generation

چکیده
Recent advances in predictive data analytics and ever growing digitalization and connectivity with explosive expansions in industrial and consumer Internet-of-Things (IoT) has raised significant concerns about security of people’s identities and data. It has created close to ideal environment for adversaries in terms of the amount of data that could be used for modeling and also greater accessibility for side-channel analysis of security primitives and random number generators. Random number generators (RNGs) are at the core of most security applications. Therefore, a secure and trustworthy source of randomness is required to be found. Here, we present a differential circuit for harvesting one of the most stochastic phenomenon in solidstate physics, random telegraphic noise (RTN), that is designed to demonstrate significantly lower sensitivities to other sources of noises, radiation and temperature fluctuations. We use RTN in amorphous SrTiO3-based resistive memories to evaluate the proposed true random number generator (TRNG). Successful evaluation on conventional true randomness tests (NIST tests) has been shown. Robustness against using predictive machine learning and side-channel attacks have also been demonstrated in comparison with non-differential readouts methods.

This paper describes a minimal implementation of a cryptographically secure electronic voting system, built with a low-cost Xilinx FPGA board. This system, called VoteBox Nano, follows the same basic design principles as VoteBox, a full-featured electronic voting system. As with VoteBox, the votes are encrypted using Elgamal homomorphic encryption and the accuracy of the system can be challenge...
متن کاملHuman being is a living random number generator
General wisdom is, mathematical operation is needed to generate number by numbers. It is pointed out that without any mathematical operation true random numbers can be generated by numbers through algorithmic process. It implies that human brain itself is a living true random number generator. Human brain can meet the enormous human demand of true random numbers. Number as well as a string of n...
متن کاملIntrinsic parameter fluctuations in conventional MOSFETs until the end of the ITRS: A statistical simulation study
Variability in device characteristics will affect the scaling and integration of next generation nano-CMOS transistors. Intrinsic parameter fluctuations introduced by random discrete dopants, line edge roughness and oxide thickness fluctuations are among the most important sources of variability. In this paper the variability introduced by the above sources is studied in a set of well scaled MO...
متن کاملRandom Numbers in Scientific Computing: An Introduction
Random numbers play a crucial role in science and industry. Many numerical methods require the use of random numbers, in particular the Monte Carlo method. Therefore it is of paramount importance to have efficient random number generators. The differences, advantages and disadvantages of true and pseudo random number generators are discussed with an emphasis on the intrinsic details of modern a...
متن کاملA bias free true random number generator
We propose a new approach to nondeterministic random number generation. In theory, the randomness originated from the uncorrelated nature of consecutive laser pulses with Poissonian photon number distribution and that of the consecutive single photon detections is used to generate random bit. In experiment, von Neumann correction method is applied to extract the final random bit. This method is...
