چکیده

1 WordNet In 1978, George Miller started the development of a database with conceptual relations, as an implementation of a model of the mental lexicon. The database, called WordNet, was organized around the notion of a synset between which semantic relations are expressed. A synset is a set of words with the same part-of-speech that can be interchanged in a certain context. For example, {car; auto; automobile; machine; motorcar} form a synset because they can be used to refer to the same concept. A synset is often further described by a gloss: "4-wheeled; usually propelled by an internal combustion engine". Finally, synsets can be related to each other by semantic relations, such as hyponymy (between specific and more general concepts), meronymy (between parts and wholes), cause, etc. as is illustrated in Figure 1.

Monolingual and bilingual dictionary approaches to the enrichment of the Spanish WordNet with adjectives

We report on two different approaches to the incorporation of adjectives in Spanish WordNet based on automatic extraction techniques using EuroWordNet and machine-readable dictionaries. We show that a monolingual dictionary approach enables to exploit relations between different parts of speech and enrich the internal structure of the Spanish WordNet, while the methods based on bilingual dictio...

JMWNL: an Extensible Multilingual Library for Accessing Wordnets in Different Languages

In this paper we present JMWNL, a multilingual extension of the JWNL java library, which was originally developed for accessing Princeton WordNet dictionaries. JMWNL broadens the range of JWNL’s accessible resources by covering also dictionaries produced inside the EuroWordNet project. Specific resources, such as language-dependent algorithmic stemmers, have been adopted to cover the diversitie...

A Bottom-up Comparative Study of EuroWordNet and WordNet 3.0 Lexical and Semantic Relations

The paper presents a comparative study of semantic and lexical relations defined and adopted in WordNet and EuroWordNet. This document describes the experimental observations achieved through the analysis of data from different WordNet versions and EuroWordNet distributions for different languages, during the development of JMWNL (Java Multilingual WordNet Library), an extensible multilingual l...

Overview and Future of Czech Wordnet

Czech Wordnet represents one of the national wordnets created during the EuroWordNet and Balkanet projects. However, the data contains various issues that affects the use of Czech Wordnet in NLP applications. Due to lack of resources, it was not possible to update Czech Wordnet thoroughly since the publication of the first version. In 2017, we have started a project to evaluate and update Czech...

A Fuzzy Ontology Extension of WordNet and EuroWordnet for Specialized Knowledge

The integration of linguistic and domain-oriented knowledge resources is a common task in many current projects with NLP objectives. WordNet and EuroWordNet offer large lexical resources for such purposes. Nevertheless, their exploitation in conjunction with specialized knowledge is still a non-trivial task. We propose to use fuzzy ontologies, which combine Fuzzy Logic theory and Description Lo...
